I was watching this Whippet, and right when I was going to bid at the $80 mark it jumped on me to $170ish, freaking Whippets are hard to come by  I hesitate to spend allot, because at what point is it really worth it, shizzit rather get a new custom when the prizes rocket up like this. OK done venting:eusa_doh:

You can do FAR better than that on a size 7 1/8 or less, just bide yr. time.

Ah, so that's where my Sweatband Strength Tester went!

Javier, if I wanted a brown Whippet, I'd have paid that amount for this one.

Most that show up are the 50's ones, but the brown one is a little earlier with the stars in the logo and the slightly wider brim.

Bargains do come around though - I bought my grey one (I think I was the first to wear it) for about $80 at eBay. It was sitting in plain site, but I was the only bidder. I'd set up a snipe for way more than I paid =)

I'd suggest you do the snipe thing too - when you see a Whippet you like just set the snipe at the price it is worth for you. Don't worry about what anyone else bids. You'll lose a bunch of auctions, but you'll get the hat you want sooner or later. There always seems to be one or more around in our size so you might not have to wait long.

I have never tried the snipe thing, I know how it works (I guess I snipe manually), but how do you set it up with software?

I guess the debate in my head is the true worth, conditions e.g. used, vs going custom... once prices creep up? I almost pull the trigger for the Whippet at $200 but froze :eeek:

Well today was an exciting day for me on ebay.

I won this really neat old 1922 Stetson publication that I've never seen before.

1922 Roycroft Press LITTLE JOURNEY - JOHN B. STETSON

I also took the buy-it-now on this one. I've never spent $100 on paper before, but this is the first one I've seen and possibly one of the last in existence, so I bought myself and early birthday present. :)

It looks like a 1914-1915 salesman sample folder with 12 semi-gloss photos filled with Stetson models that I've mostly never seen before. This should be REALLY interesting!

Great finds Robert and Josh.

Josh, the Stetson profile by Elbert Hubbard is one from a folio of essays. The Roycrofters were an arts & crafts community based in East Aurora, NY about 15 miles south of Buffalo. Hubbard died in the sinking of the Lusitania so this appears to have been printed in the period afterwards. There used to be a lot of their print works in antique stores in the area. They are quite beautifully done with leaf and hand tinted illumination. When you come visit, we will journey down there and have a look at what remains of the Roycroft campus.
