I just made an offer for this item and it was accepted. It looks like a really neat old western style hat. It has a wide sweatband, early "vvvvvvv" stitching, taped seam, and frayed ribbon ends. I'm thinking its pretty old. It needs a good brushing and steaming, but that shouldn't be a problem.

VERY interesting looking hat ! Are you going to leave it as is after cleaning or do some modifications to it? Looks like some of the types of dress hats worn in the teens/early 20s before Fedora's took over as the style of hat worn.

Thanks, everyone!! I saw it and I had to have it. Im never lucky enough to get one of those black Stetson 1X's in the same style, so I'm sure this one will look similar. With the thin ribbon, I think this hat was western style dress hat. I have a Nutria Stetson thats very similar in style but has a thick ribbon.

LOL. Not at all bud. This auction was just posted today. I probably won it about an hour after it was posted. I gotta slow down this month. Ive gotten so many hats in the last month, its starting to even worry me. LOL.

Oh wow, I totally missed it last night then. I just got lucky this time. Usually when hats like this one come up for auction, I'm the last one to see them. It was listed as 39.99 Buy-it-now, but I thought I would offer $30 just because. The seller took it. I can't wait to have it in my hands. Detailed pictures will follow.

Hmm, well looks like I have been mislead. Just got a Dobbs hat from the bay and felt looks synthetic to me, perhaps sefelt?. The sweatband also looks like some plastic material. Didn't pay much for it, but not sure if I will use it. And size was misquoted, it's actually 7 1/2. Sweatband has Hughes & Hatcher and RLK (in two places) lettering. Lining is nice with plastic cap. brim is 2 inches and has underwelt, very finely and accurately stitched.

Update: Seller contacted me and offered a refund when I return the hat.
