Stetson Genuine Panapore

I've been wanting a lid in this style for some time but a real Panama is just too expensive and not nearly durable enough for my needs. I'm hoping this Panapore is hemp for some degree of rain tollerance .

It has great visual appeal - nice pickup!

Its from the same store in Rome as the Tan 5X from Switzerland that Bantam Man won a few days ago.

... with probably better felt than the blue one, but for about one third of it's price :) .

In fact, it's beyond me why dark blue hats are so sought after. I've once owned a blue Borsalino, a modern one. That hat just never felt right with me. It was ...like a suit made of jeans fabric.[huh]

Am I the only one?

I think that one is going to look great on you. Pair it with some backgrounds like that sunset and you can't miss!

Early westerns are really a gamble. Sometimes they go for insane amounts of money, other times not so much. Doesn't seem to have as much to do with size as with fedoras. I get the feeling more of the people who like these are more into collecting them than wearing them. But it seems to me that people are more into hats that match their Hollywood notion of what an original cowboy hat is rather than the reality. That is, this one with this crease and with the way it was displayed was affordable. Put a Tom Mix crease in it and display it a bit better and watch the price skyrocket.

The price was so low that I almost put a bid in, hoping it would fit. Then I thought, "What if it DOES fit? Will I wear it?". I would love to have the room for a 'collection' of hats - this one would certainly look great in it, as would that snakeskin Tom Mix style that no one bought.

I go back every now and then just to look at the pictures you've posted of your frayed-bow early Stetson westerns, and they are really something (especially the 'twins'):

A 40s Borsalino goes for nearly 500, but Stetson panama that's probably from the 20s or before, in the same size, only fetches 50 - and one bid? Strange.

Not so strange when the seller won't sell beyond the shores of Uncle Sam. Damned Americans! You guys make some of the best hats and pocket watches (and worst coffee) on earth but you keep it all to yourselves!!

Now Ive upset the Italians. It's ok guys - you make some of the best hats and best coffee - especially those of you who live in Melbourne. There.

And yep - that's a stonker of a buy Lefty. Love that old Stetson box!

My searches are fairly robust, but not THAT robust. The seller was practically hiding that hat.
