Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

We'll see. If they measured correctly(ha!)at the claimed 22-3/4" that would be
perfect. The unlined Mallory recently acquired was also a 7-3/8 measured at 22-3/4 and fits OK w/out padding.

In their question section of the auction, they tell you it is a tagged 7 3/8ths.

It will be interesting to see what actually arrives at your doorstep. Yes, there is a photo of a Whippet liner -- but the auction description notes that "St. Regis" appears on the sweatband. It's just hard to make out from the photos what's going on...[huh]

Hi Jimmy. The seller had two hats up for sale. She used the same copy for both. The photos of the other hat (navy blue), depicted a band with St. Regis on it. The liner did not say Whippet. I suspect the seller did not know the difference. If the hat that arrives is not a Whippet as described and pictured, I think you know what I will do. Best, Sam

That sounds like good news -- if what appears on your doorstep is a black Whippet, that is going to be an exceptionally sharp lid. BobC just won one of those, and it is a striking fedora. Good luck, and keep us posted!

Sam, let me join the club of parties interested in that hat. It looks like a very nice hat. The one I scored recently is among the finest I've reeled from the bay ever. That one appears every bit as nice, and it's the second black Whippet, if in fact it is a Whippet, I've ever seen. I must say that it certainly looks very like a Whippet. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed with you.

I was watching that one.. Wow whata hat. When I first saw it I bid $100 right off, just pure spontaneous reaction. hehe.. As if I stood a chance. That certainly didn't last long.

I think that would make a sombrero, not a fedora. We can't expect Ebay sellers to know as much about hats as we do, but often their mistakes are amusing. The poor or inaccurate descriptions are mostly from ignorance, I think, although occasionally I sense a deliberate attempt to mislead.
