A wide-brimmed Cavanagh 50 Silvgrey with a Park Ave. address for 44 dollars? Sure, I'll take it. Those oxide discolorations from the reed don't bother me. Just proof of age, IMHO

From reading the Hatted Professor, I think it's from between 1936 and 1940, after the change to "47th Street", but before the 1940s paper labels.

I’m terrible at guessing ages of hats, but the proportions don’t look 1930s to me. Maybe late ‘30s? What do I know?

I've had good luck using white vinegar on those verdigris stains, Max (if you don't have Ignacio work it). Also, I think "Silgrey" may be the color, not the model.

Doc, I think this could be a pretty special hat. Wemight know more if it has a reorder tag on the felt; that is different than the price tag on the sweat. I have not seen a Cavanagh $Fifty from this decade. I am really looking forward to your comparison with the later 100s in your collection!
