Bad photos and poor descriptions are my ebay allies.

Yep, good luck with that one. Hope it works out and, unlike your recent experience, the seller does not get another offer.

Randy, you jinxed me! I’m getting tired of this. It’s making me doubt my faith in mankind.

it’s just not meant to be. Getting mad doesn’t help and I try to remain sanguine, but I’d never do this to a customer. I once left a zero off the price of a hat and sold it for one tenth of its value, but I honored the sale. Oh well, what can you do?

Brent,
My friend.......this sucks!!!!! And I offer a word of CAUTION here. I NO LONGER post items I am waiting for unless and until, I have ABSOLUTE proof it has been mailed!!!! This is the internet and if some troll (and in one case a bad member) who likes something they see "we are waiting for" it is not to difficult to search sold listings and contact the seller. This is becoming more and more prevalent. Part is due to listing on multiple sites, but I feel a good deal is done by people searching out recently sold listings.....something as a part time insurance appraiser, I am quite familiar with, this form of search is a good tool to establish current sales value. BUT, if you are a buyer (and seller, takes two to dance) who does not mind being unethical it can be abused....
I have had this happen on at least three things (one of which mysteriously showed up here 6 months later (like I would forget). Sniping is one thing, contacting the seller after a sale is quite another........
Many members have experienced this here....I was even contacted by a irate member buyer who though I bought their hat after the sale (I did not of course, had not even seen the posting) and felt bad for them too.......
As an aside, appraisers are by law in most states (and ethically) forbidden to buy items they appraise for obvious reasons....

Sometimes you either laugh or you cry. I choose to laugh. I probably won’t even remember it in five years so why get worked up? Still, it rankles that sellers do this.
As I pointed out above,"it takes two".....the seller needs some jerk to contact them with an "offer"....BOTH are equally guilty in my eye....
PS: I am SURE the hat WOULD have been too tight anyway!!!!;)
Hope that helps.......

So this is really bad form. Seller is selling to a higher bidder after the sale is complete on the system, or found out he could get more and will relist. I'd laugh, too, sure... but I'd also leave some real bad remarks about the transaction.

Ebay has to know their sellers are also cheating them by doing this. You'd think they'd follow up on it.

Sorry you're having bad luck, Brent. To me this seller's logic does not make sense - if they want a certain price to part with it then set a reserve or a BIN.

My high school chem teacher taught us how to boil water to separate, and collect, the hydrogen... only he collected it in a small beaker. My buddy and I collected our hydrogen in a 2 or 3 gallon beaker. Good thing that beaker had a wide mouth! When we lit it up, the low, rumbling "whoooooooosh" silenced the entire class!
I was sitting in a chemistry class in HS staring out the window when I heard my name shouted from the front of the room. "Well," the teacher yelled, "what do we get when we combine these two chemicals?" I looked at the desk in front of him and saw two little piles, one red and one white. "Pink," I said.

I’m not sure what’s going on. It’s been suggested that others who had been watching the item contact the seller after the seller accepted my offer and make them a higher offer. I try to take it in stride. Some people will sell their honor for a few dollars. I feel sorry for them. I still win enough to keep going back.

Seriously though, what are the odds that both of those hats were bought just before you "won" or did the buy now option?? One in a lot of zeros! If you've got something listed in multiple places then delete it the minute it sells.

I was thinking the same. I try not to post a hat until it’s well on its way.

Good idea, Mark! I am getting ready to look up the sale. Nah. Too lazy.
