This black Wegener homburg was a bust for me. Seller said it was an extra large...it isn’t.

Continued...

best guess is it’s a 7 1/4 US. The seller was in the Ukraine so he refunded me but didn’t want the hat back due to shipping fees. I’m offering it to anyone who wants it for just the cost of shipping to them. Send me a PM if you’re interested.

The tool indicates 7 1/4, but the other measurements make it look like 7 1/8. Have you found that tool to be pretty accurate?

What's the brim width?

The quality of the felt comes through in the photos. The one that got away. :)

Hey never knew Bailey made hats that nice.
Brent: what struck me was that it was made by Bailey of Hollywood and not just a Bailey hat which i believe tend to be cowboy hats that are fairly good.
I could be wrong On both accounts but i always thought they were two separate entities. Whatever the case, that is a very nice hat or at least photographs well, like so many do.

Pretty sure they are the same company Bowen. From their website:

Hollywood:

The L.A. Story
In 1922, George S. Bailey founded the Bailey Hat Company in Los Angeles, California. He was an original participant in understanding Hollywood’s leading men as global arbiters of taste and style and dedicated his life to providing them with fine quality hats and great, luxurious styling.

The American West was booming, and Los Angeles was leading the charge. A population explosion was underway.

He catered directly to the needs of the “New West” by outfitting southern California ranchers, businessman, oil tycoons and movie stars with the “best hat possible”. With celebrities such as Humphrey Bogart, Cary Grant and Gary Cooper wearing Bailey, it cemented his reputation as Hollywood’s premiere milliner.

Western:

Our Way is Western
In 1922, George S. Bailey founded the Bailey Hat Company in Los Angeles, California. Bailey saw the emerging need for a hat company that catered to the Western market. The American West was booming and Los Angeles was leading the charge.

He catered directly to the needs of the “New West” by outfitting Southern California ranchers, businessmen, oil tycoons and movie stars with the “best hat possible.” His dedication to his craft quickly made the Bailey name known throughout L.A.

Many of Bailey’s current offerings still use the same blocks as they did when originally designed for the West over 90 years ago. Bailey remains a collection of original and authentic Western headwear with an eye for industry leading product.

Well i’ll be darned, Bob. Live and learn.
Guess Bailey was a competitor to Valentine. They had to be good in that case.

My experience is that the tool usually measures a bit on the small side as that hats don’t usually completely conform to the steel band. I’d say it’s a 7 1/4, but I can remeasure to be sure if you’re interested.
