Do you ever realise you just bid on a hat that on second thought you don't really want?
Today I was relieved to miss out on a relatively new Borsalino on the German Ebay. Only about 15 mins before ending I was outbid. Pfewww...:eusa_doh::eek: :D

That would be me. :D I barely squeaked by! In fact, it sold for exactly my bid amount.
It does look in Pristine shape, to say the least...can't wait to see it on ya.
The only thing that would concern me would be the fact that they have it listed as a size 7 1/4, yet they say it's 22" around the sweat, that would make it a size 7.
That's quite a bit of a size difference. :eusa_doh:

Hopefully it goes in your favor though.

Yeah, I saw that. The description says 7 1/4 and that it has the tags still attached so maybe it's possible the felt has shrunk a little or perhaps just a bad measuring job by the seller? I guess we'll see when it arrives. [huh]

I was the under bidder. I asked about the size as it seemed small for a 7 1/4 and all I got back was " measures 22" as stated in description". Didn't seem like he was interested as it was already bid up quite high. Let us know how it is when you get it.

Most likely bad measuring, that Stetson Sovereign listing said 22" diameter and it went over my ears!

That looks like a great hat!

Wow. That's a nice one. That seller could have made 5 times as much (or more) if they had listed the correct size and/or measurements! You should be able to re-sell that and make out pretty well.

Well, that's kind of scary! Again, we'll see. Hopefully it will fit (or be close enough to stretch). If not, I guess I'll be paying for a professional to block and resize it. It's too nice of a hat to let go and I kind of feel like I already have $ invested in it so I might as well go all out at this point.

Almost every time! :D I like the "fire and forget" aspect of it. I can set it up with the max I'm willing to spend and walk away. If I win, I win, and if not, no big deal... and it's done without having someone doing repeated bids, raising the price while trying to find your ceiling. It also helps avoid getting involved in a bidding frenzy, which also drives prices up. Good for sellers, not for buyers. Sniping works for me!

Cheers,
Tom

I have never used a sniper. I try to bid my max early on and ride it out. This is the first time I have ever bought a used hat for more than $65.00 but I felt there was something special about this one so I bid high and let 'er fly! I guess I got lucky. I bid the same amount for a Stetson Whippet 2 weeks ago and got beat by almost $70.00. Those Whippets are hot! [huh]

In my experience sniping is the way to go. It's simply the way to maximize ebay's structure in your favor. I use esnipe, which isn't free, but is cheap. I think you get some free bids when you open an account. You are only charged if you win the auction, though.

Here is my ebay victory from yesterday. A Royal Stetson Whippet which has never been worn and still has the price tag on the sweat band. $123.

I think you paid a fair price for a nice Whippet in a 7 1/8 Long Oval. If you're not an long oval shaped head I'm sure that there are several fellas here on the lounge that would be more than happy to take it off your hands. If you're a long oval head shape then I think you will really enjoy this lid. It is one of the most popular type of hats here and it looks to be in very good condition. :eusa_clap :eusa_clap

Ok guys, here's a question for you all. When you're searching for your little gems, where exactly ARE you searching? The 2 main searches that I see are as followed: 1. All Items Category: Vintage Accessories > Men's Hats and 2. All Items Category: Hats > Bucket, Fedora. I've also had some luck just searching: Vintage Fedora. Do any of you try any other searches other than these? [huh]

I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you. lol

Great hat. I bid on it, but bailed at $70. Maybe I'll come across one of those $4.99 specials at a second-hand store.

Congrats!
