A million of them must have been sold during the Urban Cowboy days. One could hardly enter a bar in the early 80's w/o seeing tons of feather hat bands and crocheted ones on cheap cowboy hats.

Edit: Meant to add this advertisement from the era.

I'm pretty sure I had that vest. All of a sudden I feel a strange urge to feather my hair and watch some old John Travolta movies. Maybe a Burt Reynolds flick too?

I don't know. I "lost" my opinion on this.

Are you kidding? You're one of the masters of the westerns! If you have an opinion on my little stingy brim Churchill I'd give it due regard. Terry has suggested that I should add a few unaltered westerns to my roration and see if the look grows on me. I think this could be my gateway hat.

I've seen too much here and life is too short, so I "lost" my opinion on that matter. It's up to the owner.
Thank you on naming me one of the masters of the westerns.

I just bought this on eBay. The seller knew nothing about it I know just about the same. It doesn't look very old, but I'm not up on my Borsalinos. I know the price was cheap and 7 5/8 hats are hard to find. Any help with what it is?

The lack of a liner makes me think it was a summer hat? The leather sweat means it wasn't a roll-up. I'm also concerned with the brim as the photos show it down front and back, but I'm hoping someone just popped the snap brim down. I'm posting this same info on the Borsalino Brotherhood thread.

So what do you think? Do you know what model it is?

Thanks in advance.

This Stetson Number 1 Quality was delivered today. A little dirty but no major stains. Sweat has some issues but I don’t think I’ll be in a hurry to replace it. Ribbon also needs work, but the price was pretty good. My research shows that the No. 1 Quality designation was only used in the 60s - maybe late 50s. The red liner seems to say 60s too. Regardless of vintage the felt has a great hand

3 1/2” brim and about 5 1/2” open crown

Update: Just got the hat I previously posted about. Oh, my God. First of all, the quality, compared to a couple modern hats I have, is outstanding. I once made the mistake of buying a $60 some fedora from Macy's, which doesn't even come with a box. The brim was too short, and the crown wasn't tall enough to accentuate that vintage look, and don't get me started on the material inside. Thing could kill you in a temperate room. Luckily I was able to receive a full refund. This hat is truly amazing. Seller even had the courtesy of sealing the receipt in a tight bag! I can't stress the love I already have for this one. Would buy another vintage hat, if only I could afford a Cavanagh :(

Would send photos, but when I try to do it on mobile, which I prefer, it says the attachment is too big. Hmm.

Vintage fedoras are like potato chips, you can’t stop at one.

Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. My Churchill Beaver "50" arrived today! First, it was packed in a too small box, but ok. The first touch was all smiles! Great hand, and that clay like shapability. Ohhh. Then as I pulled it out is was surprised to see that in was an open road style hat! Even better!!! It is reasonably clean and the sweat is in good shape! But this is me, so there has to a a problem, I couldn't be this lucky? I put it on my head and..... of course, my "7 3/4" was a bit small.

The size tag is missing, but under the sweat near the reorder card is a tag with the size. It's not perfectly clear, but It looks like 7 3/8:

Anyway, here's more of the hat (I spent 20 seconds just giving it a bit of shape; it really was just like clay)

I'm sure the sizing was an honest mistake and the price was ridiculously low (the cost of lunch :) ). Still a disappointment. Now to find it the right home....any suggestions?

Nice lid!
Bummer about the size. Reminds me of a 1930's Marathon Kennel Club I bought a while back where the seller swore it was a 7 3/8 but was a 7 when it arrived. Even had a size tag that clearly said 7. When I contacted the seller, he said he saw that size tag but didn't believe it because he measured it to be 23" inner circumference. It wasn't even close. I ended up selling it to a Lounger.
With that size and quality you should have no problems finding a home for it.

Yep! When I get the chance, I wanna look for one that's styled in the way of the one in your profile picture, and the one Abbot is sporting in mine. Is there a specific name for it?

Not that I’m aware of. Others may know better. Mine is a 40s Crofut & Knapp. At least I think it’s 40s. It was my first vintage fedora and is still my favorite hat.
