Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

I posted a few days ago and it finally came in. I'm not too sure I dig it. It's almost to me like it can't decide to be a cowboy hat or a fedora. It's definitely stiff like a modern cowboy hat. The brim is rock hard. I can't decide if I'm going to move it along or mess with it some. My favorite western style crease needs more brim.

Can't speak to the stiffness I like it! I wanted a horseshoe so I modified an Akubra Woomera. One of the things that I like about how it looks when I wear it is the rounded barrel-front crown.

Mine has been boxed up for the winter but will be seeing it's shadow soon.

I know we don't commonly link to active listings under the theory that you don't want to bring attention to something that you might be bidding on. Competition and all that.

However, this is a fairly unique listing and would have a pretty rarified pool of bidders. I'm just interested if there is any information on a hat like this. I couldn't find a reference to a Knox 100 in the School of Hard Knox thread. Has anybody ever seen/handled one of these puppies? Comments from some of our more esteemed members are encouraged (@alanfgag, @carouselvic - too bad the Professor is on extended hiatus).

They are by far the finest hats ever made by an American company (Knox 100, Dobbs 100, etc).....about 10 times better than the Stetson 100. Trust me when I say that hat is worth every bit of $500. The felt is unlike anything you have ever handled and even though its 100% beaver, its so dense and pliable. Seriously amazing stuff. Mine was 7 1/4 as well....too big for me. I would love to find one in a size 7.

Jim, Josh sold one some time ago and I seem to recall Alan had (and sold) a Knox 100 once.

Here's the one from Josh: http://www.thefedoralounge.com/thre...ne-hundred-sz-7-1-4-w-orignal-box-ebay.62953/

Edit - here's Alan's http://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/knox-one-hundred-size-7-1-4-sold.74814/

Thank you David and Josh. And a big ol' "DUH" from me. Alan's is the hat I modeled my Gus Miller custom on. I misremembered it as a Forty, though.

Guess I picked the wrong week to quit drinking...

Interesting this one is also listed as having a Custom Edge, but the brim is bound.

Agree. The "renovate" on the sweatband explains the narrow brim with mismatched binding ribbon.

I have to wonder if this renovation was done by Hat Corp of America. As a lover of vintage musical instruments as well, I have seen Gibson and Fender "altered" factory editions of instruments. The alterations were done very well by the manufacture, but differed from the factory edition based on customer preferences. The brim width on my Knox 100 was 2 5/8 including the Cav edge. The brim width on this particular Knox 100 on ebay looks to be about 2 3/8 - 2 1/2, but its hard to tell. I think the bow may have been done at a later time, but the brim binding is done very well. I actually like the bound edge of this hat, but I do have to say that the Cav edge on the Knox 100 that I owned was the most uniform and perfect Cav edge I had ever seen.
