Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

This western straw had been on eBay for a while, apparently made by Bandera Hat Company here in Fort Worth.

For $17 shipped, it should be a decent beater for the warm months that will be coming soon.

I've found a couple of ads from the 60's for Bandera Hats, but doesn't seem to be much info around.

This popped up on ebay with an extremely reasonable buy it now price, I bit the bullet and bought it without asking about the size rather than let it get scooped. Ended up being a perfect fit as a 7 1/8.

Anyone else out there pay a buttload for a hat for it to arrive and be severely disappointed?
Please tell me I'm not alone.

I actually sold a guitar for a hat. (Dumb, I know.) It arrived stained, wrong size, sweatband coming out, ribbon torn, and worst of all; nonrefundable.
Then I ruined it further by spilling superglue on it.
The buyers remorse is strong.

I was eyeballing that when it first hit. Glad you got it. I'm just a little to big for it. Better it went to a lounger with the right size. Congratulations.

I feel your pain my friend. Luckily I donated it this year to Art's charity function and received a $50 credit to my account for further use. It sounds like the condition was far worse than my disappointment.

When buying any hat online, the best thing to remember is to ask questions about everything. Check for moth bites, size, have them measure if they really know zero about hats, ask if there are any reorder or size tags behind the leather sweatband, how supple is the leather, size of brim and crown. Then ask if you bid and win, how will it be shipped, box, protected???? You see when you can know all that sort of information, it helps protect you in more than one way. You have a choice to not bid if the answers show you a bad deal...and if they lied and shipped, you have their responses to make a claim it was not what they told you. Maybe one time in buying on line, have either myself or my Husband ever had a super bad issue with buying a hat that was horrible compared to what we thought it would be. Asking questions and getting answers before you spend your moolah is your best friend!

I still have to find a No.1 with a 4" brim. The one I have is... kind of... stingy 3.5"...

Just think if someone would invent for you, a "brim stretcher".....haha!

It would be nice but due to the way a hat is made, it's impossible.
