My last count, I was up to about 50 hats, straw, Milan and felt. I thinned a few out on eBay recently. I'll have to do a recount.

About half have boxes.

And I'm not counting my wife's small but growing collection.

Yes, labeling is a MUST! I did a complete inventory and listing this winter. I need to start thinking about moving some out. Big ones, all. KonaDog! You out there?!?

OK, here is a perfect example of why ebay is dangerous and frustrating for collectors and uniformed sellers both.

So, this seller has a Stetson Beach Comber for sale. Yes, they are fairly rare and I've seen few on the bay before and yes, I don't own one but would love to. Now, this is how the seller describes why she is pricing it at a whopping $249...

"I don't really know the value except for the fact that I only found 1 other on eBay for sale at $217 - mine looks to be in much nicer shape. So I am offering this at $249..."

Sorry, hun, but your hat isn't worth much over $50. Why? Because the stinking thing is a size 6-3/4. No one -- and I mean no one -- wears a hat that small these days... unless they are like 10 years old or something.

It doesn't matter if the hat is rare or not. At size 6-3/4 she'll never sell it any where near that exorbitant of a price.

But, darn it, she saw another one on ebay at $217 so her's must be worth more, right?

Of course, this seller doesn't know that no body wants the ultra tiny fedoras at top dollar no matter how rare they are. In 99 percent of cases, no one wants a size 6-3/4 no matter how rare it is. Sure there will be the few exceptions -- as there are exceptions for everything in life -- but this hat will never sell for any $250. Not in a million years. This seller was just misled by ebay and didn't bother to take any time to learn the hat market before trying to sell her thimble-sized hat.

Yep, 6 3/4 is even tooo small for my wife's small head!
