I always thought those extremely high prices were ridiculous as well until I saw this today, it already has 26 bids and is up to $720 so there are people willing to spend outrageous amounts of money on hats.

Almost all the bidding is by 2 people who are caught up in auction fever. Buyers remorse will set in on the winner when it's over. I've been there done that. It becomes more of an ego thing of not wanting the other guy to beat you rather than the worth of the object. The loser ends up being the real winner.

Someone on ebay is not paying attention to the questions section where the seller wrote...

"The sweat band is unsewn maybe a little more then a 1/4 of the hat along the right hand side. It could be resewn by a professional or maybe just a few spots of glue ..."

Uh... GLUE? Me thinks these bidders don't fully understand that the sweatband is totally ruined in this thing!!

word!.... >ahem<.... I mean "quite so!"

I dunno when the "junque" or "shabby chic" crowd stumbled upon vintage felt, but this is laughable. And if I see one more "repurposed" or +Upcycled" POS whimsical creation made from a perfectly good, sixty year old piece of felt, I'se g'wine :censored:!!!

I've had several with "spots"of glue to "fix"the sweat.
the black Stetson I picked up has liner that is Glued but it is a also from 98 or 2001 as i found a tag that said rev in 3/98 and 2001 stamped on the under side of the Sweatband. The hat need some who can fix the line and get it a bit more in shape. Its a wonder someone didn't use double sided tape to fix it.

My Scala came from the factory with the liner glued in place. My Biltmore, on the other hand, has tape. Even the factories are cludging things, these days.

I can confirm that Stetson was gluing in liners in 1958

The stitching here is from the ribbon, the liner is glued in

Hmm didn't know that as all the hats but that one Stetson seem to be stitched in at best have a thread through the ribbon to the inside to liner. I would think glue with be bad as when hat get clean it would soften up. I really need to find some in Sacramento are who know hat repair and all.
Thanks for the info. I'm learning more every time here.
