A night of derbies... the high opening bid and substantial freight cost might have kept the action light on this old brown beauty.
Indeed, a bowler night to remember. These gents would be proud:

Yea 2 bidders went krazy on this. Wild !
Clear Nutria on the sweat, Nutria Quality on the liner - either way, very nice
It looks like this one is leaving CO for NY.
I missed out on that one. Could the winner be one of our illustrious members?
Some city cat with a cowboy complex, I 'spect.
This beautiful Stetson Exposition Medal sold yesterday...
and this Stetson Hempstead sold a couple days ago. I totally missed it and had intended on bidding. It appears to have an early 40's sweatband, but the proportions of a tall crown and short brim seem to go more towards the early 30's. Very interesting brim stiching.

I suspect some Haberslashery here, same hat with photos in a cooler hue sold a few weeks ago...
Not camera angles--looks like the edge(welt or binding) was removed-likely a wide-brim in keeping with the "Bold-Look" styling. 6/23/38 date for first use Stetson Medalist, $7.50 in the first half of 40's.I did a google search and found the original auction...
I count 3 sets of double stitching in the original pics and in the new auction. Maybe its camera angle thats making the crown look so tall and the brim so short?
