Not sure there really is a norm Tom. I usually shop my size & plus 1 size for vintage. I will look at 1 size lower but only if it is a LO or XLO & then only for hard to find models I'm searching for....
+1 - That's exactly how I used to do it.

Just a note inspector but my understanding from talking to UPS, Fedex and USPS employees is that fragile stickers mean absolutely nothing to them. All packages are treated equally. When we figured this out where I work we stopped using them. We have customers who occasionally request them and we'll use them in that case to make the customer feel good but our understanding is that fragile stickers aren't really a useful way of preventing damage.

I put the stretcher to get the hat to fit better, what's the norm, for buying hat's on the bay should you go one size larger on my normal size? May stick to wide brims, and use this as a beater

Tom,

Buying off the Bay can be risky when it comes to size. I have a size 7 head. I have had anything from a 6 7/8 to a 7 1/8 fit me decently. Sometimes I've had a 7 too tight or loose. I usually stick to my regular size, only straying if it's a particularly nice or unusual hat. On occasion I may have to send one to Optimo to re-size. IF you can get a really great hat for a steal it may be worth spending the dough to get it resized.

Thats true I guess. (Sigh) oh well it was a beautiful box though and it's color matches my blue suit so I guess in happy about that. Sad thing is that I still don't have a box to put it in like my others.

Ironically, in my experience I've had more boxes marked as fragile arrive damaged than unmarked boxes. You could easily find another hat box, even a Stetson one like the one it came in, I'm sure.

Those boxes are not made for shipping without being inside of another, more rugged box. The seller did you a disservice & cost you the box. JMHO

Feel the same way, however the seller is not a hat collector and was selling his dads hats because he passed away a short time ago. However that is no excuse for the damaged box. Especially since I payed $40 bucks for it.

Hey Winter Joe. I was watching that one but had to leave and do some other things and missed the end. I though it was going to go much higher. I would have paid more than the end price for that so I think you got a good deal.

Winter joe, I tried to send you a pm about an hour ago with some info on that derby hat but it says that your pm box is full. In case you're interested check out the classifieds.

I didn't see that one (my ebay filters are set to not let me see anything over $100 to preserve my marriage). That's a nice looking hat. You're on a buying spree recently!
