Ebay dilemma, raise caine or not?

Okay ya'll, yesterday I purchased a new fedora seen here

for $40 + shipping, being the sole bidder... sweet deal right?
I thought "he had this mis-listed, I must've been the only one to see the auction" boy-o-boy!
This a.m. I get a message that this item was "listed in error" & is "no longer in production, not in stock, not available... blahblahblah". I promptly pointed out to the seller that they still had this item as a BIN at $130 & it looked mighty fishy to me. He promptly closed that auction as well. I now see a seller w/ a different name selling the very same items, same location, same descriptions, including this self same hat at the $130 BIN price... what would YOU do? I know that forty bucks for a new fur felt lid is a hella bargain, but I've gotten better. I acted in good faith & strongly suspect this schmuck is not... so what would you do? I sorta feel like giving this guy a bad time for my trouble... everyone needs a hobby, eh?

He's dishonest. What will he do next?

That's what the eBay policy statement is for. He can't list an item, let it stay at auction, get a winning bidder, then pull the item off the market hoping for a better price. That's against policy. Report 'im!

Report. Ebay reporting feature even has a category for this bait and switch routine. However, as another sage person just said don't expect ebay to do anything for you.

I'd report it. Don't know if I'd expect much out of ebay. Did you happen to send the payment in before he sent the email? Also, you might post his name here to help others from falling prey to this scum.

No payment was made, so I am out no $$$, but if I had WANTED the $$$ I don't guess I'd have made a bid in the first place.
Thanks to all f/ the advice, I reported this 'un under a violation of eBay's Seller Non-Performance regs. And while I am sure ya'll are correct in that nothing will be done, at least I did the right thing and maybe the scoundrel will not be quite so quick to try & pull the same B.S. on the next fella'.

At least you can somewhat prove that you were deceived and cheated.

Once I won on an eBay auction, a pair of classy cowboy boots at a really low price, they looked really hot. I waited for the boots to arrive, but they didn't.

About two weeks later, just as I was ready to contact the seller to see when the boots had been sent, I got an email from the seller asking me if I had received the boots yet. I wrote back no.

The seller very quickly and very cheerily offered me my money back, saying nothing about when or how the boots were sent, just that they must have gotten lost in the mail.

My guess is that, after I won the auction, someone told the seller that the boots were quite valuable and either the seller decided to keep them or someone made a much better offer on them.

I cannot prove anything, of course, and I did get my money back, but will always wonder....

This guy has a partner and they run Old West Gallery.com. I ordered a bunch of stuff a few months ago, and one of em promised it to me in a week. A week became two, three and then 4-5. I cancelled the order and a guy named Peter was indignant. Stay far away from them.
