Watch those finger and figures. but you'll look great at the pool

Gee Root! The guy wanted to offer you what his max was...sounds fair. Why didn't you go to the ebay bid retraction? You could ask ebay to see what happened, like their computer goofed up? There is conflict resolution and safeguards....check it under the Terms and Condtions, and Non Paying Bidder.

You have to pay close attention.....never bid late at night when you are tired, or rush in the last 2 minutes and have fumble fingers, or well, start bidding after haveing a few cocktailslol lol

The ladies will swarm you at the pool!!!

I can see the other bidder's point. You don't really want to pay $51 for it due to eBay's mistake and neither does he. If things had gone the way they were supposed to, he would have gotten it for $26.

Say, who's side are you guys on???lol lol lol

Well, I'm going to get it, keep it and enjoy it! I'm going to make the best of this and just learn a lesson which is... use an online auction bidding service.

I'm going to send eBay a message, let them know that I'll let this slide this time but if it happens again, I'm going to get tough!

Wow, that's a weird eBay glitch, eh?

eBay should take care of it if you ask them. They will probably deal with you and the seller to make sure no-one's out of pocket.

Clearly eBay is at fault. Who would put $2500 on a swim suit? And then try to get out of the deal? Doesn't make any sense. eBay is always playing around with their website encoding. There's always something that doesn't work right if you're not using Internet Explorer ... Probably they've screwed up their bid confirm page.

As far as I'm concerned, both you and the other bidder should be on the same side! You both got burned by ebay. The only ones profiting from ebay's mistake are the seller and ebay!

I've always thought the same thing about second chance offers. If the top bidder is a deadbeat (not implying that you are :) ), why should I have pay my top bid? It never would have gone up that high if that other person were just bidding what they intended to pay. However, ebay (the money grubbers) won't even let a seller offer a second chance offer for less. You never know, that other bidder might even suspect you're in cahoots with the seller.

Well, there are many things to suspect and no one can truly be trusted these days regarding such things. I'm just going to get this suit and enjoy the heck out of it. I'm just going to use this as a learning experience.

Thanks for all the input and posts to this thread!

I've bid $3,000 by mistake before(instead of 300)- my fault completely and I was lucky I didn't win.
The item ended up selling for around $3,100.

I had bid early on and didn't realise what I had done until the auction finished.... But I would have obviously not paid, had I won-

It's easy enough to deal with eBay and cancel a bid- especially if it's an obvious mistake- on your part, or theirs. I have also bid on the wrong item before and retracted. eBay only get annoyed and suspicious at bid retractions that are many and often from the same user.

I would contact eBay and tell them what happened-

$2,500.01 as a first bid on a $20 item in the last 10 minutes is obviously a mistake and they should accept that. They have people who know market values of most things, who you are, what you buy- they have all the stats and that $2,500.01 bid is obviously totally ludicrous.
Whether it was eBay's glitch, or your own mistake, it's up to them to deal with it and stand by you as a client with a good history with the company.
