Hopefully somebody finds it interesting. Movies back then were "reality tv", for the most part, and these are no exception. The window into another world aspect leaves me feeling, I can't think of the exact word I want, but creepy, or strange - a strange hybrid of wow and something else that I can't put my finger on. It's like a time machine. Anyway - lots of hats. A few guys tipped their hats to the camera. Neat stuff. Enjoy.

Thanks for the vid Pompidou. I am considering buying a boater hat for the summer and noted that a majority of the hats were boaters, Kinda funny that I look to an antique filmstrip for ideas in fashion. I liked that guys even had a nice hat for doing hard labor. The women wore nice hats too, you don't see enough women wearing hats nowadays.

I don't really like a lot of the hats women wore back in the day, or rather, I like the most simple of them, I should say. Women's fashion has a tendency to abandon function entirely in favor of form. There's more to life than looking pretty, after all. I don't like the gaudiest of clothes. All the feathers and pomp kind of make me cringe a little. It's a good thing men's fashion lets us do more than sit, stand and hobble.

What good is a hat in which one can't do anything? That's my opinion. When guys put on a fedora, we can go to work, have a business meeting - pretty much do anything. They don't hold us back. I think "doesn't hold me back" is the epitome of hat/clothing excellence.

This must have been posted somewhere here before, but here's a seven minute video containing footage shot from the front of a cable car traveling down Market Street in San Francisco, California. Initially thought to have been shot in 1905, it was later determined (allegedly) to have been filmed four days before the 1906 earthquake:

Pompidou, thanks for posting. Zombie, the SFO film was pretty cool too. Even the horses jaywalk! Contrast that with modern times. A few years ago I was rushing from Union Square to the airport and caught a cab on Market Street. As we were driving along I saw a pedestrian step off the curb and get hit by a car in the next lane over! We kept driving and I've always wondered the aftermath.
