Does the M65 Field Jacket have wide sleeves?

Hi guys. I recently bought myself an original M65 Field Jacket, made in '70. The size of the jacket fits me. I am very satisfied, but the sleeves are too wide. I want to give it to a tailor and narrow the sleeves. But I'm afraid of spoiling the original look of the jacket. Are M65s wear with wide sleeves? Do field jackets have such wide sleeves?

Yes. Only the fashion versions have narrower sleeves.

Do you look like John Rambo from first blood?
If you want to stay period correct, keep as is, if you want it more fitted, get it altered and fitted.

I had also originally considered having mine tightened. But I actually think that an original one just has to be like this. Mine also has a lining, which is quite comfortable with the wide sleeves. My M-65 also had wide sleeves 40 years ago and it was fine.
But if you like it narrower better, then go for it.

I was going to say that the sleeves were made to incorporate a liner and with further layering. I'd think it would look odd with such tailoring, but I also think you should do what you like with it. JCrew had a field jacket...Mechanics Jacket?...with a more tailored, fashiony look. Also, keep in mind that M-65s were sized to fit a rather wide body type. For instance, the medium fits a 4inch range of shoulder. Maybe size down a single size for a tighter fit?

The right-hand side of these two jackets has almost identical dimensions except for the sleeves and pocket sizes. However, the sleeves are a good 2’ narrower. I find the difference visually small. I don't think the sleeves should be too narrow, because the proportions would then no longer fit the body of the jacket, which is not slim fit either.

I have a replica that is built following original pattern the manufacturer have sample of the original jacket, and the sleeve is big for me, so most of the time I wear it rolled up. If the sleeve looks roomy on prime Stallone, most likely it would be roomier for everyone, However I've seen japanese channel about reengineered m65 to fit their market to look smarter and slimmer sleeve etc, honestly it looks "off" somewhat it looks more like motorcycle touring jacket . I much rather downsize on original pattern.

My arms don't look like Stallone. The arm looks quite wide on me. That's how it is.

At least in your picture I don't think it's bad. It looks as if it should that way.
But I don't think anyone here can help you decide whether you like it or not and whether you want to have it tightened or not.

The sleeves on M-65 are wide on purpose to accommodate this contraption:

I wouldnt bother narrowing them, to do so kind of defeats the purpose of the original jackets which generally do or did fit whoever was wearing them as your picture shows - on the other hand a specially tailored M65 may be what you prefer, but it will take away imo from the overall feel and M65iness of the whole thing. I think its easy to overthink military style jackets.
