Back in the late 70s when I was a charter pilot, the guys around the airport started calling me "Crazy Jim." I don't know why, since I was always quite cautious. Anyway, many a paying customer did a double take when they showed up at the little airport office and someone yelled, "Go find Crazy Jim and tell him he's got a customer!" Some of my 20-something employees started calling me "Captain Kirk," I think because I used one of those Nextel phones that flips open and has a speaker phone. It reminds them (and me) of the Startrek communicator.

Nicknames

I was named after Melanie Wilkes in 'Gone With The Wind' so hence, "Miss Melly".
I'm also a huge Star Wars fan so I got the name Darth Maulanie.

Cheers!

Since my name is actually two words from my tribe's language put together, each starting with the letter K, many people find it cumbersome. It's pretty funny what people come up with, I can say my name to them, straight out, and they say it back with extra vowels and consonants. I won't write it online because it's very unique and I'd feel like I was putting my full name out there.

So because of the difficulty people have with my name, it gets shortened to kk. Which is fine. Because people used to call me Kiki and that just peeved me. I know there is Kiki's Delivery Service, and Kiki the ferret from Sluggy.com, but for the most part, it just sounds like a porn star name. It doesn't suit me, being that I'm not a porn star. Nor am I a ferret or an anime 13 year old Witch, as cool as she is.

Also, people automatically call me by the first half of my name, which in my tribe's language means 'girl'- so I tell them clearly, don't do that. I'm not a girl. I'm all woman, and have experienced far too much life at this point to be a girl. The words together mean something special, that my grandfather as chief gave me. But the word 'girl' alone? No.

(of course I refer to myself as a girl alot, but it depends on my mood. :p )

A lot of people tend to call me Red especially if they forget my name or if they are older. My dad calls me Kafashno (sp?) which means "sour" in polish and boy howdie do people look confused when he says it in public and I respond.

It seems like everywhere I go, people start calling me "Mister Paul". I don't tell them that everyone else I've ever known calls me the same thing; they just do it on their own. It used to bother me until someone said it's because I have a quietly dominating presence. I thought it was just the heavy eyebrows.

Some people call me the Space Cowboy - some call me the Gangster of Love...

But seriously...

My nickname for so many years now has been, "Moon". As a matter of fact, I have a whole handful of people that call me Moon and don't even know my given name.

My given name is Matthew - I went by Matt because I thought Matthew was too nerdy. Then when I hit my 20's I embraced Matthew again - and it is still what most people call me - but my family (mom and sis) call me Matt to this day. I answer to either since I figure I have been called much worse.

Regards,

Moon ;)

Back when I was in high school and wayyyyy into punk rock, I had a studded jacket, and folks took to calling me Spike. When I ditched the spikey look the next year, they started calling me Spike-less, and that stuck till school ended.

These days, for some reason, everyone I know calls me "Eric B", even though I'm the only Eric in my social circle (which makes the "B" for my last name rather unneccessary). Also, a fair number of musicians in the local Bristol-Providence RI music scene, instead of using my real name, have started calling me "the Ayatollah of Rock N Rollah" or just "The Ayatollah" after my old myspace handle. Silly myspace names are a dime a dozen, but to get called that in a friendly manner in real life by people whose music I admire always gets me smiling.

Not really any good ones that are used alot. Although an old friend of mine calls me "chico" occasionally. She doesn't say it very often though.

That nickname does not fit you at all. You need a really cool nickname.
