4 or 5 avocado. 1 or 2 tomato. 1 or 2 lime. Depending on size of the fruit. Whiz it up in the food chopper machine. Growing up, we always called it avocado spread. We put it on toast. That was the base. You could literally put anything else on top of it. Ham. Cheese. Poached egg. Fig. Mango. Roast beef. Duck breast. Purple onion. Greek yogurt. Grapes.

Today, avocado toast is a luxury item.

And, finally, we have crossed the $30 threshold for a menu item that consists primarily of mashed avocado on a piece of bread: The most expensive avocado toast (that we can find) in New York City is here, at The Garden at the Four Seasons Hotel, for $31.

Marlowe Towers has recently seen the arrival of a dish dubbed 'Mimi Memorial Chimkens'. Our late Mimi Dog, who died in February this year, was very fond of 'chimkens' (chicken). When she died very suddenly, there was still a new and unopened packet of fresh chicken pieces in the fridge that had been bought for her (the last thing she ate was the same, hand-fed to her no less). With the way that little lady had had to live on the street before she was recused, it seemed very wrong to waste it, so I had it for dinner a couple of nights later - stirred into beans and mash (works also well with baked potato). It's since become a regular feature, named in her honour.
