Von Teese heading to Australia

The queen of burlesque will kick off Sydney's Rosemount Fashion Week on April 30 with an invitation- only strip at the Museum of Contemporary Art. She will also go to Myer's city store where she will sign autographs and present a check to a charity. :) All in a good cause says the newspaper.

Hello fellow Aussie, do you know when she'll be at Myer? Are you talking Sydney or Melbourne?

I just got her book and it is great. Wonderful pictures of costumes. Her make-up is flawless.

Thanks for the information. I will try to make it. There is a vintage clothing fair on, so might not be able to make it. It would be nice to get my book signed, but ringing ahead would be a good idea. Thanks again..:)

Love, shmuve, Baron. It's just an awful mix of eras.
I guess that's part of her charm to mix eras. Dita is an entertainer and has to be creative. She does have a great vintage collection. I guess you can't be totally 100% vintage material. Dita is added her own ideas and styles to the different periods also. Anyway, I think she does it quite well. This would probably upset some vintage purest.:)

I believe that Fletch was referring her choice of spouses, not wardrobe. ;)

They are divorced now, so I guess it doesn't matter either way!:)

Sometimes I cannot resist the gossip mags, then to my horror I find Dita might have a new fella!!!

None other than Russell Brand, now I love his podcasts, but dating Dita.

russell_brand.jpg

He told the Sun recently: “I saw Dita Von Teese at the Chateau Marmont Hotel.”

“At the risk of looking incontinent, I walked past her several times to the toilet to get her attention. Eventually she saw me and we started chatting.

I was saying some brilliantly funny things, slowly tempting her into my web.”

“I was thinking to myself, ‘You like Marilyn Manson? You like weirdos? I’ll give you weirdos. Androgynous freaks is it?’

It was going well and she goes, ‘Would you like my number? Call me any time you are bored’.”

“I said, ‘I wouldn’t have to be bored to ring you, darling’.”

“Later I texted her, ‘Oddly, now I feel perpetually bored. Everything seems pale having met you’. She replied, ‘You have a way with words’. So it’s all going well.”

With a decent wardrobe, shave and haircut that brand could morph into quite an attactive young man. Whatever one's personal views on him, it is undeniable that he has a charm factor that attracts many women. I guess it really is true that ladies see more than the superficialities such as manner of dress.

Either that or they read the superficialities and derive messages from them. Being scruffy or goth at least allows you to still be masculine and straight in the eyes of the broad public. "Androgynous freak" tho you may be, there is that aura of dark bruteness that certain women really respond to.

I suspect a male entertainer who styled himself anywhere near as 1940s vintage as Dita does would only do so to appeal to a small, mostly gay audience. At least now that Harry Anderson has given up his look, and again, he had a slight aura of the carny about him and once "skewered" himself "bloody" on live tv. That kind of gave him permission to be a squeaky clean, 40s sharpster with a line of patter like a small town salesman. One suspects Harry in his salad days would have had his hands more than full with Dita, tho.

My point is that whatever we like and feel attracted to here in our self-defining subculture, we have to be prepared for the mass culture not to understand or care what it means to us. They care only what they think. Many of us have had to walk that line IRL, obviously.

The 40s glamor girl is a currently popular feminine archetype.
The 40s matinee idol is not a currently popular masculine archetype.
The gothic weirdo, OTOH, is a currently popular masculine archetype.

I got nothing against Von Teese, any girl that drives a New Yorker is good by me, but I'm always amused that apparently "burlesque" is a classier word for "stripper". "Oh no, I don't strip, I'm a burlesque dancer"

Yeah but you take off clothes for money

"Yes but"

and probably have bad daddy issues

But she's got a gimmick so hollywood latched onto her like a leech and now she's rich.

Dita has never claimed that she's not a stripper. In her book and all the interviews I've read/seen/heard with her she's always said that she's just the same as every other stripper, she just does it with a different style.

And I think it's a stretch to claim she has "daddy issues". She seems like a very classy, put together woman to me. Not at all your stereotypical stripper.

I too am a Burlesque stripper... and I will totally admit I have "Daddy issues" -- I don't have nearly enough of them! lol

That was quite rude, especially when there's a few who are in or have been in that profession here.
