The funny thing is that while management gave me some looks, the rest of my co-workers liked it. In fact, when I came in yesterday in my normal casual garb - I had people popping their heads in my cube and then complaining about how I wasn't dressed up like yesterday.

So, I've decided to look up every birthday and death-day for every notable criminal in the gangster era and then dress-up on those days. I shouldn't need an excuse but it makes it more fun. Hopefully, there will be more of these in winter. It hasn't been below 110 around here in weeks.

Maybe you should ask yourslef whether this garb amounts to fancy dress or even affectation in the work place?

Just remember that some people who probably do not care what you wear might not appreciate you glorifying a common criminal (edited in advance to substitute "common criminal" for what I really think of him).

Most of the folks that I work with didn't have a clue who Dillinger was. As for people objecting to me glorifying him? I would answer that it was all in fun and if me dressing up is seen as shallow and uncaring toward the one man he killed and numerous that he terrified 76 years ago then so be it. But, seriously, there are so many more things in this world we should be objecting to before this.

As to whether this is fancy dress or affectation in the work place? Sure it is, but again it was all in good fun. Personally, I think me dressing up was just weird and people tend to have an initial negative reaction to weird. Now they ask me nearly every day when I'm going to get dressed up again and we'll have a whole group doing the 1930s thing on halloween.

Flitcraft - I thank you for the nice words about my hat - a circa early 1940s Stetson Imperial. One of my favorites.

I thought you were dressing up in honor of the brave men who facilitated the triumph of good over evil that occurred that warm Chicago night.

I think it was an opportunity to be stylish and dress as close to the 1930s as I could at work. Paying homage to Dillinger or the nascent FBI was not what I had in mind. "Dillinger Days" just sounds better than Nascent FBI Day" or "Stylish 1930s Day" or whatever.

And up196, I LOVE your avatar - the model 81 Police rifle is terrific!

Well I've become a worry to my employer (of only 14 weeks) by showing up like this today in commiseration of John Dillinger's death 75 years ago outside the Biograph Theater in Chicago:

I don't know what they are worried about it. . . . . except maybe that tie?

Great outfit! I think more people should dress like this for work! Bravo
