Did Schott buy Shinki? Another Shinki STYLE: P617H

I actually believe the Mulholland is quite a good pattern. It doesn't fit everyone of course, but man does it fit a lot of people extremely well.
I've tried the Mulholland, it's a terrible pattern. Yes not every jacket is a good fit for everyone but the Mulholland is bad in general. Same holds for the Speedmaster which might even be worse.

Went back and tried on both today and pretty much concur with all of this. Love the shine and depth of the Schott shinki and would love to have my double rider option be a Schott perfecto, but I just think the cut of the Eastman fits me better (I much prefer the V shape and length).

The Eastman feels a bit 'tighter' through the. body but the shoulders might be better than the Schott, and the Schott kind of bulges out in the chest/belly in an unflattering way when seen from the side (though that might subside/deflate as the leather gets more wear).

Forgive the formal attire but at least it might be a good outfit to use to determine fit.

I do now officially step away from my comment on page 1. It IS a very nice jacket with a flattering fit!

For whatever reason, Schott just uses an inapppropriate model to show it. Were they to use one of the fit photos in this thread, the jacket would be sold out by now!

Which sizes did you try on? Is it 44 in the Eastman and "L" in the Schott?

Thank you. We seem to be more or less the same size. Did you try the XL as well? I would think, it must be too massive in the torso/hem, while shoulders and lenght could be working somehow.

As @Aloysius said, the lettered sizing seems to be kind of in-between the numbered one, which may or may not work on an individual basis.

Thanks for these fit photos. They are really helpful!

I did, I think it fit ok (length was probably not great) but the main thing was that it felt like I was swimming the chest, like not so much that the shoulders or whole thing looked oversized, but just feeling there there was so much room if I zipped it up and pulled out the chest from the front (which is my main fit issue with the L, frankly, since I don't think it's very flattering how much it puffs out in front from the side and maybe doesn't drape in the front when unzipped as I would want it to but that might improve when the leather is 'tamed' a bit with wear).

Here is the sizing chart from Schott.

613/618 has wider shoulder and more V taper in the body, size 44 has 19.25" to 20" shoulder, 22.75" to 24" P2P, 21" hem. Even if they used alphabetical size L which is a 43 it will still have the flattering proportions like the Eastman.
Not quite the fair fight between the Eastman and this new Shinki Schott imo. One is designed to fit a handful of people extremely well the other is to fit as many as possible medium well. A fair fight would be between a Shinki 618/613 and an Eastman, and I think I would go with the Shinki 613/618 in the regular pattern.

I just ordered one. I want a chill, easy to wear double rider with a wool liner. Looking forward to trying it on.

I was considering getting the p628h but then this dropped... they both have interesting features, I just think the p617h is a little more quiet. We will all find out in a few days!

Thank you. Yes, Jerri did send me the size chart.

I am a little bit puzzled by the numbers. All measurements of the “L” are larger than those for my 613SH in size 44 But for the chest, which is noticeable smaller.
I really would want it the other way round, as I believe, you can slightly oversize P2P in a cross zip, while lenght and hem need to be pretty fitting to create the typical “V”.
Certainly, my Durable repro works that way, with a MASSIVE taper from shoulder to hem.

FWIW: I think the Schott looks great on you!

Hmm, well if it's any help the 44 in the 613SH was the only other Schott in the store that I thought fit me well (or at least, the only other perfecto that fit well). I agree , much easier to deal with a bigger chest or even shoulder but sleeve/length/hem need to be on point or it can kill the whole look.

Thank you! Still very torn (not sure when I'll get to S&S again to try on the 46 in the Eastman if I feel the need) but if the Schott is limited it may be easier to try and snag that, it's also returnable unlike an Eastman from Standard & Strange or secondhand.

Yes, that helps. The 613SH is the perfect Perfecto, IMO And a great fit in 44 for me.
I was pretty underwhelmed by the new iteration at first, but the real-life photos here are really attracting me.

In terms of fit the ELMC wins hands down, it's much more flattering on you than the Schott. At first I thought that was because the ELMC's thinner leather drapes better new out of the box but that's not it. It's the shoulder width of the Schott that is too narrow while the sleeves and body are too long.

I don't think you need to size up. I owned the Roadstar myself and it fits you like it for me. Snug yet very comfortable, providing great movability. You are going to have a hard time finding a better fitting jacket. This ELMC is perfect.
Thank you! This is good to know. I am slightly (but pleasantly) surprised at how well everyone finds the Schott to fit, and I do think some of the pulling in the Eastman is due to the unnatural arm placement with taking the photo since it definitely didn't feel like I should go up a size. Even the 42 was surprisingly able to fit better than I thought (though was definitely too tight) but I probably was overstating the difference in sizes in my head.

I think I definitely prefer the cut of the Eastman, and may try a 46 before purchasing to be sure but still mulling it all over, if only the Schott didn't have the limited availability...but I presume there will be more Shinki models in the future anyhow and maybe the next one will be more in line with what I would love in a Perfecto (which I think would be very similar to this one just with visible collar snaps, back belt loops, and maybe a more typical pocket pattern of the 613 model).

The 22 3/8 sweep is what I find concerning on the Schott size Large. This is less than an inch of drop and quite a bit wider at the bottom than any of the 613 or 618 variants. My size 44 613sh measures (almost) 21 inches. I feel that this could be trimmed a little (maybe to 20.5) which would slightly improve the V and still work for most people.

Both chest and hem can be a bit big, so long as there's something to cinch at the middle so it doesn't hang wide and straight. These measurements would make me think something that hangs like a sack, but it doesn't seem to on the pic here.

I wonder if there's some missing link here that the spec sheet isn't bringing across, like it gathering in the middle and then spreading at the hem the way a half-belt would. (In this case there's no half belt, but maybe this is happening at the top of the kidney panel, like my Johnson does.)

Good points.

I first didn’t like the silhouette at all, both from looking at the photos on Schotts website and from the fit pictures with Schotts own model.

The photos here prove otherwise, but really the numbers don’t explain why it should suddenly look this good.

@Canuck Panda , I guess, you will have to pick one “Large” up and dito one of your helpful deep-dives… ;)

So I went and tried it on. I def lost weight. 15ish pounds in the past yr. So the medium was bigger than Schott 519 medium. The 519 is broken in and fits me like a glove now.

The medium Shinki was just too baggy from the getgo. It would never break into my shape. The sleeves were too long too.

The small fit a little tighter than my 519 medium did when new. But I have no doubt it too would break in nicely. The sleeves are perfect. The back was pulling as you can see in the photos. But I bet 2weeks and that would be looser.

I am passing on it. Lovely dress up version but @Aloysius was right. The 613sh in size 40 was NIICE!!! fit me even better than my 519 in medium. FYI it is for Sale here: https://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/fs-schott-519-medium.116945/

I may look for a pristine 613sh in size 40.

I swung by S&S and the 40 J-24 is now too loose after dropping weight. I would now need a 38 in that. But still a 40 on the 613SH.

Size medium
Thanks for the fit pics. The small fits you perfectly- IMHO exactly how a motorcycle jacket should fit. Just a stunning piece

That Eastman looks great on you. If the Schott Small was a lil wider in shoulder I think I would go for it. But I am truly in between sizes on this model.

Thx. I am glad my thread helped everyone. I see the medium has sold out online. I should get a commission @Schott.

I like almost everything besides I am in between the small and medium. This 617h Medium jacket runs larger than the 519 medium. My medium 519 (now sold) fits like an in-between small/medium in this Shinki 617h. I almost can fit the small.

The shoulders pull on the small. I know I can break it in but it was a bit snug with hoodie. Prob fine with t shirt.

I am thinking the 613SH is the better fit in size 40 for my body than all other Schott jackets. The cafecto 40 also fits me wonderfully.

In the end I rather have a better fitting leather jacket than the best leather quality and poor fit

I didn't love the sweep belt stitch all the way around. I prefer the clean sweep of the 613sh.

Thanks! The Schott definitely fits 'right' as well but I think it's just a little close but no cigar as far as my preference for the style/cut when I have learned the hard way before that you really want to be fully enthusiastic about buying a jacket like this both in terms of cost but also the confidence to rock it when you're not on a motorcycle. But the limited edition nature of it sure creates a sense of urgency! The leather is gorgeous, as is the lining. And I do love the romance of having a perfecto in the closet. But I think the length is just ever so slightly longer than ideal and the pocket/collar design just slightly too sleek and minimal. I also don't love the way it drapes when worn unzipped which is how I expect to wear it most of the time.

Also the Eastman's leather being much lighter likely has the benefit of being easier to wear and not falling into that leather jacket no-man's land where it's hot because of how thick it is but not actually that insulating and thus, not great for cold weather unless layering (which then of course changes how you want it to fit).

Really hoping Schott continues it's Shinki releases though, the leather is stunning and suits their jackets quite well IMO, maybe next year they'll come out with something that's just right for me. And hopefully the success of this one keeps them on the shorter side of things with the length.
