Did I pay too much for this hat?

Not compared to this.
The discussion of price and worth is a subjective one. Some people would consider your hat expensive and others think the Stetson worth it. It is all relative. I think you did fine.

Buyer regret? Naww....
Questions...
Do you like the hat?
Did you want the hat?
Did you have to have the hat?
Would you regret not getting it later?

If it makes you happy..own that hat!

I just went through the same thing last weekend.
I saw a hat. There was only one like it in the store and I left it there...
only to find myself going back to the store a few short hours later to gladly hand over my money to own that hat.

I'm sure you are going to look fantastic in it. (I love that wide ribbon)

It should fit as it and I am a 7 3/8.
Well, what I meant was, is this a very high price? (Feraud, I DID bid on that Stetson several days ago, and was shocked at how high the price finally got. Screw that -- I'll get a custom made at that price.)

I needed a decent light gray fedora badly -- my current gray fedora is a real piece, floppy wool felt trash. It looks VAGUELY OKAY in pictures (I think I have it on in my current avatar) but once one touches it, the lo-qual is apparent. Winces have been discerned. (Actually, I'm exaggerating a bit.)

I don't know if THIS NEW one is fur felt or cruddy wool felt. I think if it was not cruddy wool felt, i.e. if it was beaver or fur felt, they would have advertised that fact.

Hmmmm.

So Stovall says $51 is not an outrageous price anymore ... I guess that is what I am asking.

It's an excellent brand, and it's French. Vintage French fedoras are vastly undervalued on eBay. The best ones are on a par with vintage Borsalinos ... yet they go at a fraction of the price.

OK, now this is very useful information, I never bloody heard of the brand. I'm ignorant in many, many things vintage (which is why I am here to learn).

Chevalier, did you get my PM from a few days ago? A similar question, regarding how much is typical to pay for size 43L pre-1950 DB suits ... or if anyone else has a ballpark guess, I'm interested.

I'm on a student budget and don't want to get gypped [sorry any Romani out there] but also don't want to pass up a good deal out of my own ignorance like I could have but didn't with the Brabant hat.

PA Dancer has it right. :eusa_clap

Well, so does Douglas et. al. as well. Personally, the only time I've been really unhappy about what a hat went for is when it was one I wanted but I underbid. For the most part, the lesson of ebay is that a hat is worth exactly what it sells for--but only at that particular point in time. :p Once you get it, handle it, try it on and it fits/suits you, it becomes priceless.

Enjoy it!

It looks nice to me. I think you got a deal, a hat in that size usally goes for a higher price.
Sometimes you get a better deal sometimes you just get a deal. I think you got a good deal.
Remember to let us see it on your head. :D

The price you paid is a fair one. Enjoy it. Although I should qualify that by saying that Marc is wrong about French fedoras and they should be avoided all costs. So if you have second thoughts PM me immediately!! ;) Eric

Ain't too bad since it is a larger size. "Too much" is relative. There are folks around here that will spent $175-225 for certain hat they deem "must have."[huh]

Certainly looks like a nice hat, looks soft and, I think, fur felt.

When you get it, would like to see pictures of you in it.

Price is not bad at all considering what some fedoras go for now on eBay. And if it fits and looks good on you, it's a bargain.
