Did I pay too much for this hat?

"Of course you didn't. I have seen hats that size go for waaaaaay more money."

I just paid $225 for a Stratoliner in 7 5/8 and another $25 for a Stratoliner hatbox, and I don't even know if it was worth it yet because I'm waiting for it to show up on my doorstep. I'll know if it was worth it when I wear it!

Doran et al, trust me on this. "Lucien de Brabant" was one of the great French hatmakers of its time. There were more than a few, but the most well-known were Mossant and Flechet; almost all of the makers were based in Paris.

Before WWII, top menswear stores in the U.S. routinely sold British, French, Italian, Belgian and Czech fedoras alongside their Knoxes, Stetsons and Cavanaghs.

Thank you Marc, your knowledge about these things is marvelous. I appreciate it. (NB I think the gentleman who says these hats suck, above, is joking and wants my hat, although what he wrote threw me the first time, too.)

Doran, Nice Hat! If , as PA Dancer and others have said, you like it, you own it, and you wear it with style and panache, you did not pay too much.

As for the Royal Stetson link posted earlier in this thread, IMHO someone paid far too much, especially for that grade. It pays to know what you're buying before you bid. As in, what do Royal, Imperial, and Soverign mean in Stetson lingo? (This is not intended as personal criticism of anyone either deceased, living, or to be born.)

The word VINTAGE is widely abused by on-line sellers in many instances.
