Designers are doing something...

Here are some Italian 'designer' pieces- very vintage-esque sporty utilitarian.

And Versace-

Hi MK!

Hmmm... maybe- depends what's underneath- sometimes my jackets look like that- my fault, not necessarily the jacket- maybe the nuance of fit and the wearer's shape. It looks more of a 'natural shoulder', rather than the squared-out '40s style. It's hard to see in this photo but the lapels are a little on the stingy side.

It's got the high gorge, the nipped waist, 4/6 buttons and the button stance is OK and the sleeves look narrow enough.

Not TOO bad.
I'm liking it.

Dries Van Noten had some very 20s/30s inspired clothes last season. some of them were rather nice. there was one jacket i would gladly have owned if it wasn't so expensive. (unfortunately i didn't save any pics).

the autumn winter stuff was more sombre. i've seen some nice heavy overcoats by Dries Van Noten too. i like to keep one eye on the arty designers in case they suddenly do something interesting. Commes des Garcons has done some nice jackets, but produces unbelievable tosh too.

Like the versace, so far as it goes. The buttons are what put me off. Top ones seem a little high and the bottom four too close together for my taste. Love the shoulders. Recalls the 20s early 30s when the natural shoulder was the norm. Works well on smaller frames.

Like the pocket flaps on the top linen number. Reminiscent (actually identical, in fact, as it were, maybe) of the back pocket flap of a pair of 20s troos i have around somewhere.

The signs are good, if these images are what is going to be "in" with the 'it" people next season ...

True- the button configuration is not a perfect vintage arrangement but the high gorge, and high buttons(yes, top ones too high) and shoulders are quite vintage friendly.

I think Mr. MK's observation on the shoulders, perhaps reflects his preference for the '40s style- me, I prefer the '30s style. No?

I'd dare say that the 'natural' shoulder style is more difficult to achieve and get right, than a squared/extended shoulder. More of a tailored feature in real terms.

And yes again- the more vintage styling there is on the catwalks- then the more peoples' horizons will be broadened- or perhaps narrowed.

Very nice. I love the new fit they're going for. Very much inspired by the 30's. It's nice to see guy's figures in suits again.
