Denim Jackets - New or Vintage

As far as I remember, early 90s? Oversize-fit Denim jackets and College jackets?

Perhaps the YEEZY era. I was not a part of it back then.

I remember originally seeing the oversized look popularised by hip hop. It came round closer to home in the grunge days, though in that case I think it was more about lookingl ike you'd picked up what was available in a second hand place, as distinct from wanting it to look deliberately over-sized.

Didn’t really need it as I already have two denim jackets but Levi’s was selling this raw on sale for $38 so couldn’t pass it up. Took a chance on an XS but seems to fit pretty well. Breaking it now on a 90 degree day!

Here's the Bravestar version. I need a large and this is XL. So I think the smaller size will fit better and take off a little length and get closer to where I want. I still have a vintage 101j so got that look covered with the shorter and boxier cut. Wanted something different here. I think right size will be good and quality and workmanship is really nice.

That is a very nice jacket from Bravestar!
I owned that one briefly and found it to be very similar to the IH version which I also own. The fit was practically identical and while I like the IH a bit better I will not pretend that it is worth the substantial price increas over the Bravestar version.

I have the 21 oz Bravestar. Its stiff as a board but the fit is top notch. It feels almost like wearing a nice leather jacket.
I purchased a lower oz model some time later from BS but I was not pleased with it.

@navetsea Interesting you specifically mentioned the 5 buttons. I just realized there are ones with 5 and 6 buttons. The 6 button ones either has the extra button on the yoke or at the bottom. Personally I prefer the 5 button look. It just looks equally spaced out at 5 buttons.

Type 1 and 2 alike are 5buttons, while type 3 is mostly 6buttons and sometime 5, from pictures I see, all my off the shelf type3 have 6 buttons, one shows 5 buttons on the promo pic but the real jacket I received has usual 6 buttons lol...

I also like 5, since usually i close 1 button, so button 3 is right in the middle.

Now, I checked the oversize-fit type III, I was thinking about, in the store (C&A). But finally didn't buy it. Solid, clean type III quality, 100% cotton, but surprisingly less oversized-fit. More like classic regular-fit in compare to type III's usual slim-fit.

Osterhase brought me already a really nice Wrangler type III Denim jacket. It's the new (Coal Blue) model of their (european) Authentic series.
But it's a new type III-like design and they now INDEED went away from the stupid boxy fit of the old Authentic Western model!!

The new model is practically a type III, but with a regular fit, instead of the classic slim-fit.

Think I may have found my best fitting Lee 101j repro.

Love the original but at 6'0, it's a little too short for me and the poofy upper arms, eh. Might turn into a vest down the road. Will still try and rock it from time to time. Bravestar does an awesome job, but little too long. Works better when I layer or with flannel. Think the RRL is my goldilocks. Grab and go.

Let's bump this thread with the coolest denim jacket I have ever seen, a mid 80s made in USA Levi's sherpa trucker:

It sold long ago; it was my size and I kinda wish I had bought it, even though the 275$ price tag would have been hard to stomach.

A nice Oshkosh B'gosh jacket from their short-lived Bronks line, currently on Poshmark:

The story behind it is very interesting. From a @vintagehaberdashers FB post:

"Oshkosh B'Gosh introduced the "Bronks" line in 1949 and produced western styled jeans and jackets for men, women and children. While Levi's, Lee and Wrangler were still largely marketing their jeans as clothes for working cowboys, Bronks targeted the casual youth of America. The line and marketing may have been a little ahead of its time and seems to have ceased production around 1956. Had they stuck it out with the Bronks line for another 5 or 10 years, who knows? [...]"

I don't know, if open Denim vest mostly looks that bad, but while retrying my 1996s medium stone Wrangler (european Authentic Western model) vest, I did the comparison opened and closed, and closed, it looks surprisingly fine, I tell you!

I was so surprised, because I had seemingly a misrememberance. But I will def. wear the vest with flannel jacket under it in autumn, I swear.

But aside of that, I will look out for a darker type III vest, all the next time! It's not that easy to finde some in the street storse, here, actually!

This just came in a few minutes ago. Inspired by our brilliant colleague's @Monitor recent post, I did a quick search on Dickie's denim jackets. Sure enough I found near NOS Branders Dickie's trucker in my size (38) for a whopping sum of $18.99. Heavy denim, feels about 15-oz, probably American. 1980s. I really don't need an IH trucker if I can have this. I am over the moon. Gonna cross-post this in the denim jackets thread. There are unreal things at unreal prices to be found if you follow the wise. Btw, a quick search on Ford mechanics jackets inspired by @Davisleathernyc post unearthed a couple mint jackets too, but I have not had found the cojones to order one yet, lol. Probably not age-appropriate, I would proudly wear one when I was 17, lol. Now I would just be looking like a real old Ford mechanic that just came off the job.... Enough rambling, back to Dickie's. Hell yeah.

40's - 50's Madewell Sanforized trucker jacket, made in New Bedford Massachusetts. Not entirely sure when they stopped manufacturing but JCrew acquired the brand in the early 2000's and started up again.

It's the same jacket pattern as Key Imperial's.
