Marc Marc Marc....surely your google-foo is not -this- weak????

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_McQueen

Lee Alexander McQueen, CBE (16 March 1969 – 11 February 2010) was an English fashion designer known for his unconventional designs and shock tactics. McQueen worked as the head designer at Givenchy for five years before founding the Alexander McQueen and McQ labels. McQueen's dramatic designs, worn by celebrities including Rihanna, Björk and Lady Gaga, met with critical acclaim and earned him the British Fashion Designer of the Year award on four separate occasions.

So the guy was Lee.....who then used his middle and last names to name his company....

Lee Alexander McQueen was born in London on March 17, 1969. His father was a taxi driver; his mother was a social science teacher. His father wanted him to become an electrician or a plumber, but Lee, as he was always known, knew he wanted to work in fashion. His father, Ron McQueen, survives him, as do five siblings.

FRISBEE INVENTOR

Frisbee inventor dies at 90

http://www.thestarpress.com/article/20100211/NEWS06/100211042/0/BUSINESS/Frisbee-inventor-dies-at-90

Walter Morrison and his future wife, Lu, used to toss a tin cake pan on the beach in California. The idea grew as Morrison considered ways to make the cake pans fly better and after serving as a pilot in World War II, Morrison began manufacturing his flying discs in 1948.

Morrison sold the production and manufacturing rights to his "Pluto Platter" in 1957. The plastic flying disc was later renamed the "Frisbee," with sales surpassing 200 million discs.

"Former jockey turned best-selling author Dick Francis died today at the age of 89. Francis was one of Britain's most famous steeplechase jockeys and achieved even greater celebrity status as an international best-selling thriller writer. As a champion jockey who for four seasons rode for the Queen Mother, he took part in 2,305 races from 1948 to 1957 winning 345 of them. . .At the outbreak of war he wanted to join the cavalry but in the end he joined the RAF in 1940 as a bomber pilot."

RIP, Singer of "My Sharona"

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/02/16/arts/music/16fieger.html

Doug Fieger, the lead singer and rhythm guitarist of the band the Knack, whose enduring 1979 hit “My Sharona” has become an emblem of the new wave era in rock and a prime example of the brevity of pop fame, died on Sunday at his home in Woodland Hills, Calif. He was 57.

The cause was lung cancer, his family announced.

“My Sharona,” Mr. Fieger once said, had been written in 15 minutes. Billboard listed it as the No. 1 song of 1979.

I saw Liam Clancy with Tommy Makem at the Rose Hill gymnasium at Fordham University, in the Bronx, some time in the early 80's. It was a great place to see these two great Irish singers. A terrific experience.
One of the Canadian TV stations (I think CHCH in Hamilton?) used to have a weekly show, The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem, Live at the Caribou. It was so much fun. They also featured a wonderful Newfoundlander singer named Harry Hibbs. Harry's diction was utterly incomprehensible, but he was a wonderful singer, too.

I got to see Liam a few times as well as the last incarnation of the Clancy Brothers. They don't make them like that anymore.

RIP Gordon Lightfoot

Did you guys hear about Gordon Lightfoot?

All the major newspaper and magazine sites in Canada started reporting that Gordon Lightfoot had passed away. I even saw it was starting to get reported in the states. It was all over Twitter. Apparently, it was started as a joke on Twitter and they all picked up the story. There were reports that Ronnie Hawkins confirmed he had died on Wednesday evening. All the radio stations were playing his songs and everyone was watching his videos on YouTube.

Until, his manager was contacted and said that he had talked to him just a half hour before that and he was on his way to his office. All these radio stations had to put him on the air so that he could tell everyone he wasn't dead. Apparently, he was in his car when he heard on the radio that he had passed away. lol

Many bands that have made "Susie Q" a rock anthem, as well as the many that have recorded it, including the Rolling Stones and Creedence Clearwater Revival, whose 1968 version reached the Top 20.The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame chose it as one of the 500 songs that “shaped rock and roll.”
