Yes, we are jazz (not much after the early 1960's) and opera...not much after 1890's.....except for Van Morrison and he was balding early.

Norman Lloyd, Veteran Hollywood Hyphenate, Is Dead at 106 - The New York Times (nytimes.com)

Among his many other accomplishments, Mr. Lloyd was the last surviving person to have performed on American television before 1940. He wasn't all that proud of it, but nevertheless, he did it.

Absolutely loved Dead Poets Society and Lloyd fit his headmaster role like the proverbial glove.

Patsy Bruce (Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys) has died. She co-wrote the song with her then husband, Ed Bruce, who died a while back. Last I heard she was living on a farm outside of Nashville. I met them back in 1974 when they were running a motel in Nashville that hosted a small music venue.

RIP Patsy.

Actor Gavin MacLeod has died at the age of 90 at his home in Palm Desert, California, according to his nephew Mark See. He said the cause was unknown, but that Mr. MacLeod had recently had health issues.

A longtime favourite of mine has died. Well known film and TV actor Gavin McLeod was 90.

Born Allan George See in 1931, he appeared in the film Operation Petticoat, his big break. Many films including The Party with Peter Sellers later, his TV breakout was Murray Slaughter, news writer and foil to Betty White on The Mary Tyler Moore Show.

Of course, his starring role as Princess cruise ship captain Merril Stubing put him in TV immortality. The Love Boat lasted nine years, and he became a spokesman for Princess Cruises.

I first remember Gavin Mcleod from "McHale's Navy."

And it must be noted he was a performer in one of the greatest war movies ever mad, "Kelly's Heroes."
