The java scene is hilarious.

The film is a great little tribute to crime films of the era.
Reiner and Martin did an amazing job on it. The splicing in of the old films are nearly seamless. Edith Head did the costumes and Miklos Rozsa the music. Both were artists that worked on classic films.

One of my all time favorites. Steve Martin was truly in top form and Rachel Ward was beautiful and a great femme fatale. This is one I don't think could be improved upon.

A bit of about the movie. A couple of years before the movie was made Steve Martin was on the Johnny Carson show. Johnny ask Steve the most no-where place he ever played. Mr. Martin replied Terra Haute, Indiana. That immediataly drew ire of those living in Terra Haute. There were anti-Steve Martin rallys where people burned his album, etc. If you have seen the movie you know Steve got the last laugh. "Not Terra Haute. Just when they were getting a library."

A while back there was a thread about putting yourself in your favorite movie poster. This was my submission.

Not That Good Of Movie, Really

I have this movie on tape and of all my movies (most are
film Noir) I see this as only fair. Just my two cents.

I've only seen this a couple of times, it definitely merits rewatching! I think I'll make it my mission to see most of the movies the clips are taken from, too.

Me Too! The last time I saw this I was thinking what a great film festival program that would be. Show each of the movies used in DMDWP and then show DMDWP itself as the closer. (Are you listening Eddie?) When I get the time I'll make a Netflix list, although I'm not sure all of the original films available.

One of my favorite lines from the film is "You go put on your slinky black dress and I'll go shave my tongue". I've been known to drop it into casual conversation. lol
