Hi, newcomer here. I've been researching and looking at fedoras for a solid few months now and pulled the trigger on this medium grey w/a black ribbon as it'll be neutral enough to pair with almost anything I put together. Some moth bites but not sever enough to warrant not wearing and everything else is fair enough as well. I was just wondering if anyone knew what decade it was from. Cheers folks

Welcome to the Lounge!

60s +

The black sweatband and Stetson crests are all from after the 50s.

So I just inherited my great grandfathers fedora and I was wondering if I anyone could give as full of a rundown on it as possible as the only info I have on him and it is he was military WWI and was born in the 1880s. Side note it's one of my favorite shades of brown so it'll will definitely be worn almost daily

It looks late 1950s or early 1960s to me. It’s great that you can have a hat that belonged to a family member.

Plastic liner tip means no earlier than mid-late 50's, probably closer to 60's.

3x hats are generally well regarded in these parts. Click through for the whole thread. At that time, 3x hats were upper-mid quality hats. Selv-edge is the brim treatment. I don't recall off hand if this is a true Cavanagh\felted edge. A true felted edge (originally offered by Cavanagh) has the edge of the brim folded over onto itself during the felting process. The top part felts back into the brim and you get that thickness at the brim edge without sewing or gluing the edge down. Though sometimes they did that too.

Another newbie here looking for help. I've inherited this Whippet and was trying to get a rough idea of how old it is so I could try and figure out who's hat it was. I ran across this forum and was hoping someone here could help.
