Oooo, 7 1/2, I feel reeeally bad for you! ;)

Welcome JP...and I'll keep my eye out for a 1/2 if you look for a 7/8! Have you checked eBay?

Dear David,

Incredible! Your head is over an inch larger than mine!? You are sure you need a circumference of 24 7/8"? Geez. If you wear a Fedora and it starts to rain three or four people could get out of the rain under that hat. :D
I think I saw one somewhere but I do not remember where. If I remember I will send the link along.
I have tried eBay and had good results in the past. My favorite was the guy who had a gray 40s fedora listed as a size 6 7/8. Great looking hat but it had a 7/8 tag on the inside not the 6 7/8 tag. I emailed the guy and he said that he could not find the circumference (duh?) but it was 6 7/8" across "from side to side not front to back." He called it a "small-medium hat!" I measured one of my hats and mine was less than that from side to side! To make a long story short, I got the hat for $10 and it really was a 7 7/8.
This is the part where I make David cry, I had it blocked down to fit my 7 1/2 head. Nice hat. It looks better with the longer brim anyway. :cool2: Best of all it is a Stetson.

Regards to all,

Justin

24 1/2.

Stow it! I've heard them all!

Holy crap!   Well, I guess it gives me additional hope...I'll watch for that type of thing.

Again...welcome!

Is that the Dunsmuir house in the background?

Yup JP, at one of the Art Deco Society Gatsby picnics about 10 years ago. They are alot of fun but are only are held on Sundays and my Sunday's haven't been free for about that long. The car is one of my toys, 1928 Marmon Model 78 Victoria.

Yeah, it is a great burden having a head carrying that much brains but I will be able to live with it. :cool2:
You think that is a big size? I was crusing ebay and found a 8 1/8! Now that is a colosal head!
David, you have been topped by nearly an inch there. I did not think they even made hats that big! Come to think of it, maybe I will buy it. I am in the market for a row boat. :) Yachting anyone?

J

Now how did I know where that was? :)
I thought I had an old car with my 57 Chevy. That is really up there in age. I will have to check it out some time---when I have time. :D

Dear Dave,

Hey, that hat is really you. You should buy it. :D
Actually, the link is: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8108696784&ssPageName=ADME:B:BN:US:1 but I already bought them. Gee, I wish I would have gotten your email sooner because I could have begged off if I knew you were interested. Both of them do not appear to be that old though. I didn't know if you would be willing to have something that large resized. I guess with sizes like ours we should be willing. :)
There looks to be enough material to work with there (gee, no kidding), the color is right and maybe an artful person can turn it into a wider brim Fedora for me. I might be willing to part with one but not the purple lined one. :cool2:

J

What the...? You mean I've got competition for 8 and a freakin' eighth? Yikes! ;)

Did you confirm the size? I can't believe you got them for such a good price. Anyway, sure, I'm interested in either of them! I guess you haven't actually received them yet, right? When you do, let me know what ya got there, if you really want to sell one, then we can talk.

Thanks for the nice offer,

David

PS I might not even have to have them resized...a shim might work for me! Hmmmm, a hat too big...what a concept!

Let me try this again. Both messages I posted earlier disappeared. I hope there is still enough room here.

Dear Dave,

Like I say, we have to get what we can when we can find them with size 7 1/2. :D
I will let you know what condition they arrive in. I would imagine that they both are going to need a cleaning and a blocking. I think Art could probably block both down to a 7 1/2 though. :) Plenty of room to increase the old brim length.
The size is actually that big. I have no idea who they fit originally but someone must have worn them. In my mind I am imagining the kid in the Fat Albert cartoons who had a hat with eye holes in it. LOL I guess I could see then as well.

Regards to all,

J

Ok, let me try to post this again. I hoep the third time is the charm.

You are sooo right StHill.
My friend, wife and I stopped in to see Art today. The traffic was a little tough but only in spots.
I feel sorry for those that are too far away to just drop in like I did because you are certainly missing something. Come to think of it I don?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t feel too sorry for you because I might not have found the cool light gray Whippet that Art had in 7 ?Ǭ? no less. I would post a picture but the scanner died on me and I do not have a digital camera. Just imagine my avatar a shade or two lighter. The hat was in really nice shade with the original button and cord around the brim still attached. I am going to have some fun wearing this one.
Art also gave us the Grand Tour and we had time to chat for quite a while---ok a long time. We have a lot in common---we all collect everything. The place is definitely Hat Mecca. Did I mention that we saw a few hats that starred in Seabiscuit? One even in my size. :D
The sea hag in San Francisco could definitely learn something from Art.
Lets see there are vintage hats, clothes, shoes, jewelry and a host of other things that I just cannot remember now. If you are in driving distance, heck if you are in flying distance, then you need to come and visit Art.

Regards to all,

J

OK, let me know, thanks. Just keep in mind...how many vintage hats do you have? (At least 3 in the last couple of days.)
I have zero (0) vintage hats!*

Don't feel guilty, though! :(

:):)

David

*Hmmm, I may have just given away my negotiation strength! :D

Dear David,

You now have a nice fixer upper. LOL I still feel guilty though because I introduced that thing to you. I hope you don't have to spend too much to get it to look like a hat.
By the way, anyone who has not seen it yet can give it a look at:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8109910044&sspagename=STRK:MEWA:IT&rd=1 . LOL

That's pretty much the exact same encounter I had with her, only mine was a vintage Dobbs, but it was similarly manhandled. I was not permitted to handle (or even touch) her Borsalinos. After a couple of minutes, my wife and I were basically asked to leave if I weren't buying anything.
