This was the most expensive, of the Tonaks I've bought ($30). Only marking says "100% FUR FELT." 2 5/8" brim. 4 1/2" crown. A nice "olive green."

It's made to have the brim down in back.

But it can be turned up (sort of).

Good thread, J.T.

I like seeing all the variety in your collection.

The closest I ever came to one of these was a small fight I put up - and lost - over a vintage Tonak. It really looked like a great hat on the Ebay auction. Wasn't meant to be though. [huh]

So...

As far as I know, there are two major companies making hats.
You all know Tonak - http://www.tonak.cz/index.php?typ=TSB&showid=2
The other one is Karpet - http://www.karpet.cz/index-e.php?lang=en
And, as you know, Hückel is like "Tonak export". I was not able to find a shop offering other czech-made hats than Tonak and Karpet.

J.T.Marcus - Western hats? Try this lol http://www.tonak.cz/picture/gallery/katalog-08-09/details/10481-07.jpg It looks a bit like a hat version of bird strike :)

Everyone else with vintage Tonaks and Hückels - Where do you get them? Especially that beige vintage tall crown, I love it!

Thinking it over... I´ll have to check the Tonak shop, I haven´t been there for ages... Some of their models now seem to be acceptable.

No way! I´ll have to start displaying all results, not only those shipping to my country. I guess that some sellers can be persuaded.

donCarlos, Since you are there, and have access to the Tonak Store; do you know if Tonak is now making hats for Christy's of London?

I contacted Tonak´s sales manager and his answer was that they don´t have any bussiness connections to Christy´s. They have their hats made in China (I mean Christy´s)

Many thanks, donCarlos. That means Christy's hats should probably be compared to Jaxon Hats. :)

This is probably my oldest Tonak (purchased more than seven years ago). It's a beautiful "Hershey Bar" brown. I replaced the original 1/2" ribbon with a thin ribbon from a western hat, and sewed in a nice leather sweatband (pirated from a parts hat).

If it hadn't been for this piece, I never would have accumulated my Tonak collection.

Hückel in Homburg Nation

Hello there,

there is a dating discussion going on in the Homburg Nation Thread. Maybe, someone can help contribute hats for comparison and dating or other beneficial input.

Cheers!

Tonak used to make all of Dorfman Pacific's fur felt hats before they switched to the Chinese garbage. Look for the Scala label on hats from 5 yearsago . You will find a decent hat for a good price.

My latest Czech Republican, and the only one I didn't buy at Burlington Coat Factory. Huckel, dark grey, velour. I wore it for the first time, today; and probably for the last time till cooler weather in the fall.

This is my only East Bloc hat; a Selentino Alpha homburg that I bought new last summer. The quality seems excellent with good stitching and binding.

I ordered it from The Men's Hats.com and dealt with Mr. Isaac Breuer. He was hugely helpful and reassuring about the hat and its quality. Cost was $124.75, TT & L. Try the website; they have a wide variety of Selentino hats there.

And by the way, we need to try to get together with carter for an Outlet run soon!
