C-Dot, what adorable shoes! I just love a chunky pin-uppy platform shoe, and the polka dots and ruffles are the sweetest.
The white strap kind of ruins the composition in my eyes, though, so I'm glad you're getting rid of it lol.

Thanks girls! :) They do look much, much better without the strap.
I wanted to remove the entire strap, including the extension to the soles, but when I lifted one back, I discovered a really large seam. Bit miffed about that, but still an improvement:

Ladies, a quick question from my wife. She has just found a pair of low wedge shoes with a "Mary Jane" toe to go with her cord jacket and man tailored wool slacks. A very 40's outdoor look which works well for her as she is 5'9". Sorry for going on but, I am trying to give you as much information as possible. Her question is when did the low wedge shoe appear? We have seen period photographs of high wedges but none of low casual footwear. Thanking you in advance. Mary and Roy

Sears were advertising low wedge sandals in 1950, so I guess they were pretty mainstream by then!

Fashion history is odd as puzzicato said "mainstream" the key word I think you can always go a few years either way also , sometimes it the over all look or combination which dates the outfit put it into context than just any one item which can show up in other decades also.

If anyone is looking for some new shoes for their lady-dressed-like-a-man or ultra Katharine Hepburn look, J Peterman has these amazing Italian calfskin brown and tan spectators on sale. I can't post an image since their website doesn't have separate image files, but here is the link. I've been lusting after these for a while now, but reg price is way too pricey for me. Sale price ain't cheap either, but then, Italian calf skin...

They just marked down a bunch of stuff actually, some great vintagey dresses.

Ditto for being annoyed with myself for missing these... they're pretty much exactly what I've been looking for all summer! Love the style, and I've been desperate for white shoes! I found them at Amazon.com, but I'm sure a Google search will turn up more.

I've just come across these at Clarks

These babies will be mine come next paycheck. It's hard to tell from the photo, but the light bit is actually cream, not white, and with a patent finish. The quality looks pretty good up close, as well.

There's also a cute looking pair of penny loafers on there at the moment.

I was wondering how the penny normally was able to stay put under the flap - anyone know? This pair is unstitched on both sides of the flap, so it seems like a penny would ease its way out (sad perhaps, but if I get a pair of pennyloafers, I'd like to keep pennies in them!).

You're correct, they used to stitch around that detail. How about a little bit of double stick tape on the back of the penny?
