I need to get me a shirt that I can use cufflinks with. I pass up so many cool ones in antique stores.

Swivel Back Cuff Links

Gee I guess the average Joe :)eusa_doh: sic) in the late 40's/50's who wore swivel back cuff links ( and a ton DID!!!) just wouldn't cut it here @ the FL

SC [huh]

PS YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE! Will all gentlemen entering the winner circle this afternoon here @ Santa Anita please pass your cuff thru our link detector, only 14K double sided enamels will pass muster today. Anyone caught wearing swivels will be serving the drinks, rather tan being served a drink!!!

Not all swivels are created equal.

This is The ubiquitous swivel, ugly.

Some aren't quite as offensive.

Still, I'd opt for double sided.

Marc and Curt, Since you have such strong opinions on this topic, what is your view on chain-and-bar cufflinks like these?

That's an elegant compromise. Not really my style, but it's attractive and tasteful nonetheless.

Here's a few more variants. The first 3 images are a pair of 14 carat gold Whiteside and Blank vintage cufflinks dating from 1908 and done in an understated, elegant, but cleanly executed Jugendstil design.

The next image is a gold-plated modern reproduction of a Victorian era design complete with enamel work and a traditional radial swag motif. Once again, as in the previous example, this pair has a rigid bridge terminated with a bean.

Although, technically speaking, neither pairs are double-faced and bridged by a chain, in my personal opinion, I believe they still maintain a certain stylish compromise that is more than acceptable.

I have a similar pair to example one shown-- never liked the swivel--down to one french cuff shirt but I went through a phase wearing french cuff white shirts. a cheap but nice link is the nylon knot cufflink.
