That is what I can't get my mind around. How on earth did a high school class go on a field trip to CUBA and no one thought it might be a problem?

I bet the civics classes at that school are interesting.

Does anyone know what route they took, was it mentioned in the Post article? There are a few tour companies out there that arrange group trips to Cuba but fly you through Canada. Looking at their web sites, they post all sorts of legan disclaimers and direct their customers to the State Department and OFAC web sites. I downloaded the revised OFAC rules - definitely tougher than the ones from 1998. From the twelve categories of license application, it seems quite amazing that no questions were raised during the planning of this school trip.

The article mentions they were detained by US customs officials in the Bahamas, but it wasnt confirmed.
The Principal insists she did not approve the April trip. The teacher took it upon himself to organize "an independent trip"
