Crushable hat (Christys, Jaxxon) opinions anyone?

Hello,

A friend of mine is weighing options about a crushable hat. He found some that Jaxxon has, in a UK website; those are about 25 sterling, made of wool. They are described as "water resistant", so presumably have some rain treatment.

In the same website is the Christy's Foldaway, which costs about 50 sterling, but is fur felt.

Could anyone offer opinions? Would the Christy's be the better option, considering their felt is not generally considered much though, over a wool hat that costs half the price?

All of those above seem to have a pretty good shape, with a crown not too low, and without too much taper, and not too stingy.

Are there other options around for a crushable hat?

Regards!

Why do you ask?
I can't say that the Jaxon is particularly a bad choice, but I think the Christy's would be a better one since it's fur felt. Though, I have read several positive reviews of the Jaxon C Crown.

BUT the ultimate choice would be what does your friend feel comfortable paying? If this is an occasional wear item, I'd say save a few and get the Jaxon.

Just my thoughts, so take them with whatever seriousness you wish! ;)

P.S I see Rick Blaine mentioned the Akubra, if that's going on the list, I'd vote for it over the Christy's.

I've got both the Jaxxon C-crown and the Christy's foldable, and the Jaxxon is much more durable. The Christy's looks better, but the felt is very light and isn't really up to dealing with much weather, particularly wind. The Jaxxon is much more resistant to the elements.

I have the Jaxon C-crown in grey. It's definitely darker than appears in the images, but I still like it. One thing, it runs big, or at least mine did. I swear my medium is more like a large.

That's exactly what I noticed about the Jaxon C-Crown grey crushable fedora I got a year ago. The website pictures made it appear as if it is a medium or light grey, but in reality it's much darker, too close to black for my preference. I didn't send it back though, I ended up wearing it to a family cruise vacation anyway... It also runs a little large like you said, I have a "Large" size, and it's not very fitted, but I guess that's to be expected from "Small," "Medium," or "Large" size conventions. These days, I wear my Akubra Federation, but I sometimes wear my cheap, potentially faux-Panama hat in hot conditions.
