Hi guys, I wonder if anyone who owned/owns a Vanson Dominator/Hardcore/RocknRoll can advice on fit and pit to pit? It's been a while since my Vanson days, and I used to wear 42 or 44, but not sure which model. Over the phone they say among these three models, a 42 has actual chest of almost 46, not sure if it translates to the kind of measurement we are used to here. Thanks.

Based on a Hardcore I sold off some time ago, a measured P2P of around 22.5” sounds about right for a size 42. But unlike most jackets with that P2P, I could comfortably wear it. It felt more like 23.5”.

Not a true aficionado when it comes to leather jackets, yes I like them a great deal and have a few but nothing really off the mainstream.

Decided I fancied a cross zip so decided to go for the Wested one. Yes, cheap and cheerful but have to say the quality and fit for the price is superb.

In reality, being a crusty and retired (early) I can't justify coughing up some of the prices some makers charge although I'll be the first to admit the leather will be appreciably higher quality.

That faux d pocket is really interesting. It's not even noticeable in the full jacket shot.

Yes right? Very subtle. Another typical characteristic of old jackets is that the pockets are quite shallow, it’s either for tiny hands or ran out of room for a deeper pocket bag

Very Nice! I found the jacket with the original Ralphs-Pugh label. This label was first used c.1938. This is not my jacket.

The Green Steerhide label has registration pending. This is granted c.1938.

This label seems to quickly replace the Green label. As this one has the registration number on it.

I was struck by something in this label. It dawned on me the Steer Hide is designed to celebrate the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. The Bridge was completed in April, 1937.

This is my guess:

Yes, usually seen on older jackets. probably phased out for a simpler cost savings hardware. "Whats available" comes into play usually with zippers.

I was guessing it meant it was older an made me think it could possibly be horsehide as well? Either way great vintage jacket. Rp is superior vintage imo

Will post a shot in the Jacket Today thread later. I like this one very much, very substantial horsehide. I believe it was quite pebble-ish when new, almost feel like some of today's Pakistan/Indian cowhide (such as that used by Magnolia on the T2, or what Bates uses today). In fact, not even sure if it's horse at all, may not be.

the side belts and buckles are TINY! the width of the belt is 3/4 instead of the usual 1". What I really like and sorely miss, is those Triangular belts. The rear belts (sticking out from the halfbelt) start as a triangle and taper into whatever. I used to have a Campus long half belt, I traded it (along with a Sears long half belt), both GRAIL-level, with Aero, for one new Hercules which I didn't end up liking. Now one of them can be see on the Sales page...Ken is a smart business man and I was a stupid consumer. I can NEVER get those two back.

Whether it’s Steer or Horse no one can go wrong with RP. Everything I’ve ever seen on TFL that is RP has been superior.

This is pretty Grail Worthy. I've been on a quest with RP history. I ended up owning several their jackets but nothing this old. This has got to be 1938 with that green label. Their jackets are beautifully tailored and top-notch leather! They were in a prime California Tannery area, they could have anything they wanted and they got the best. This jacket is most likely steerhide just like the one I posted. Steerhide brand and top-notch Logo War their trademark. I do have a top-notch vest that may be earlier than this jacket. They also worked in cloth
