K.D. Lightner said:I am wondering who made it. It has to be pre-ZIP code, if that is an address on there, but that is hardly "early 20th Century."
A triple XXX and no hatmaker.
A handsome hat, but I would not have bid on it if I was rolling in dough. They'd have to prove to me it was really old and where it came from for that amount of $$$.

I recognize the one in the middle from the National Cowgirl Hall of fame. Her name was Prairie Rose and she could ride and rope and with the best of them.
It's those magical big hats, I tell you. I wonder if that hat sold on ebay belonged to one of those gals?

Harry Pierpont said:I've done old west reenacting for over 35 years and there were a variety of hat styles over the years during the time of the cowboy era there are several books with photos from that time period showing hats from civil war kepis to Mexican sombreros, it was more for protection from the sun than a fashion statement. The center dent like in the earlier photos posted on this thread or the "Gus" style from the TV series Lonesome Dove was made popular in the 30's cowboy movies and the "singing" cowboys.

Here -- this is for you, James, and all you folks out there who like those big, beautiful western hats and the cowgirls who wore them. Some of the photos on this site are incredible.

I wanted to visit this place when I retired but was unable to get to Ft. Worth to see it. Still want to see it someday.
