Cowboy Boots

I don't know if it's a regional thing but the "walking" heel as I know it is much lower than that pictured--maybe an 1 1/4" - 1 1/2" max, just slightly underslung. A "riding" or "dogging" heel would be the higher heel that is more underslung--somewhere around 2"ish, very underslung. I don't see the last boot as so much of a fashion boot as it looks to be built pretty sturdy for using/riding. I think these terms are mostly obsolete these days as there are many variations, where as it was mostly either a walking or dogging/riding heel back when. I've also seen boots like the 2nd one described as a "combination" heel--the most common perhaps--somewhere around 1 5/8" and moderately underslung i.e. a "combination" of a walking and riding heel.
Agree with all of this.

As HJ said, I agree with all of this. When I first started hanging around "Cowboys and horsemen" in AL, they were mostly bulldogers and roping event riders. The "doggers" mostly wore a high heeled boot with a severe angle from the heel rand to where the heel made contact. The ropers wore mostly a lowered heeled boot w/o much of an angle, though not always.

Only in factory boots did I begin to hear terms such as X toes and the terms associated with different heel configurations. You and HJ are way more familiar with PB boots than I am, and all they list are heels and toes with prescribed numbers and letters and not names. Factory boots have different designations for their heels and toes that I have never been able to keep up with.

Tex Robin describes his in plain speak and I know of others that do it similarly but a different term.
TR describes his this way:
Small box toe

Small cowboy heel with small box toe

Med. large round toe with dogger heel

It goes on and on.

Greetings Bama et al:
Had to go back and read the text again cause those are some sweet boots. Yours?
Kinda like reading a Playboy, art appreciation first. Simple makes sense.
Be well. Bowen

Those brown, with turquoise stitching and piping are so beautiful! Understated elegance!

The Playboy analogy is right on! I was thinking the same thing looking at these boots.

At my work bench, tooling leather, when my wife opened a package she received today. She asked me to give them a cleaning. Dan Post, that she got very cheap at auction. These are made in Spain. She is enjoying wearing a variety of western boots, so I guess I am lucky, she keeps an eye out for my size too! I couldn't advise her on Dan Post, since I have never had them. They look good and she is happy, so all is right with the world.

I think that HJ educated me on the Spanish branded Dan Post, made by Sendra I believe. Sendra made some nice cowboy boots. Either way, if I'm wrong all around, those are some good looking boots.

Thanks Bb, I'm just glad she shares this interest.

A good way to get a fancy boot and not endure the expense of costly inlays/overlays, etc. I thought about something similar for my last pair of Bond's but saved my pennies for a few more months and went over the top lol.

I'm glad you did. As fine a pair as I've seen in some time.

I'm amazed how they keep the verigated stitching lined up. Many bootmakers just let it turn out however it does. Jones nor Jass are known for "fancy" boots and it's been stated Jones only offered a couple of stitch patterns, and only after you had one pair that fit well would he allow anyone to order another pair with a different stitch pattern.

Jass still makes them the same way, with three rows of pegging and the same toe bug. One has to look at the angle of the pulls to discern the difference.
