Well, last night, at the weekly extended family dinner, I tentatively mentioned that my family might not attend. My husband's new job has him flying to Europe for a week each month since this past August. He really wants to spend the day at home. Wow, did that start a fight. My sister took it upon herself to lecture me about disappointing my mother and being selfish. The suggestion was that we do our Christmas "thing" on Christmas Eve so that we could still have Christmas dinner with "your family". There are times when I hate living so close to my family.

So if we had Christmas all year long due to Christmas Creep then you could have Christmas Christmas Eve or even Christmas Pearl Harbor Day. Problem solved.

It becomes YIKES!!!! when you understand that I'm closing in on 40 and my sister is 45. It's not like I'm a teenager, ditching the family.

An uncle (husband's family) has spent one christmas not in his mother's home *in his entire life.* He's 63, married, two adult children (one is married), and has 3 grandchildren. Needless to say, his mother has always said he needed to come celebrate... and he has.

You guys DESERVE to stay home. Wow. I can't imagine flying to Europe once a week every month - just the jet lag alone would get to me. But your husband has every right to want to stay home. It may just have to be as simple as, "We're staying put and that's that."

I won't try to sound like Scrooge here, but personally I don't give a damn about Christmas. I haven't for years (I blame it on my years working at Mervyn's) BUT......I do help with decorating and stuff cause the wife and kids, especially our oldest, love Christmas. I'm not one that's going to be a SOB just cause I don't like holidays, I make sure the family enjoy it and have a great time. Me and the wife don't do gift exchanges, never have at any occasion, but we make sure the kids are spoiled by Santa and are happy.

I have had tried to personally get back into the Christmas spirit, but in the end it's all the same for me: "Who gives a ****"

But I sincerely hope that everyone else here does have a great Christmas/Hannukah/Winter Solstice/Whatever else!!

I'll be going home to my parent's for the holidays. We celebrate Christmas and Hanukkah, so it's always a big deal this time of year that we're all home together. I love the big family dinners and opening gifts together, especially with all my nieces and nephews around.

My Christmas tree is decorated with all my Grandma's old ornaments, mostly from the 40's and 50's, which I love, and Bing and Frank generally provide the soundtrack for the season.

On a more stressful festive note, I'm trying to plan a party for work right now (I'm an Events Organiser for a charity), and finding a decent entertainer is proving to be a total nightmare.
If anyone in the north of England wants an hour's work on December 16th, let me know! lol

If I could roll out a pre-decorated tree on a dolly cart & have ALL decorations up & then down five weeks later in 30 min's each I'd be a happier camper! Solid Citizen
