Cool looking IH "One Star" jacket

Newly released IH one star:

Love the style, the leather looks a bit "pebbled" to me which is unattractive...and the price tag given the looks of the hide and the YKK zips has me scratching my head a bit. If this were priced competitively with Schott or Vanson it might have been one to consider. It appears some assumed mystique has been generously worked into the finished price point. Shame...

That's a beautiful jacket I'd actually consider if it were $1000 cheaper. If one is intent on that style the Bill Kelso model, not inexpensive, would be fit the bill. Pretty sure they could slap on a mouton collar.

Yeah there's something about the hide that looks very manufactured to me...I dunno. I love the color of the collar, the top o sleeve zips and the body length...it really reminds me of a remake of the HD cycle champ w/an added coin pocket (which would have been better off omitted IMHO). $2100 is just plain silly for that thing...

Looks cool but this grainy texture is probably my least favorite type of hide. The jacket is nice otherwise but yeah, ridiculous price as you can get three Schott Perfectos for that kind of money and for on-screen accuraccy, with BK's version around, this really makes no sense whatsoever.

Seems to fit like Schott, too...

Chrome/Vegetable Tanned Steerhide

  • The hide is chrome tanned in Europe and then it gets shipped to Japan where the chrome removed and is finally vegetable tanned.
Could someone please enlighten me why they would do that.

What does it add, other than cost?

I think it's pretty much it, yeah. I guess ever since the zenith of actual jacket quality had been reached long ago with makers like Aero, Vanson, Schott, etc. producing jackets that can outlast entire family trees, companies have been looking for ways to justify higher price tag and this whole vegetable tanned deal they've been shilling for some time now is a part of it. It's just a marketing ploy. Which is why you have it advertised by almost every maker that isn't really offering anything new that's not being made by the competition. The Japanese seem to really insist on making a point out of it. The term Vegetable tanned is often the only discernible thing in the Raukten product description. I'd say these guys are just taking the whole thing up a notch, taking it into a fantasy realms. What possible benefit would chrome-vegetable tanned leather have over any other, I cannot even fathom. . . Obviously not appearance. And if the chromium is removed, isn't it just vegetable tanned then?

Honestly, I find it hard to believe they're actually doing that!

I actually do like the non matching belt. It doesn't look as fancy-fancy and try hard.

I have to wonder if there's not some issue with the translation. For example, maybe it's re-tanned with a veg process by IH over their suppliers chrome-tanning. "Removing the chrome" doesn't even make sense to me. How would they even do that? The tanning chemicals become part of the material, don't they?

Man I glossed right over that. What logical sense does that even remotely make???

I can see different scale sizes, seems like a genuine grain of the cow to me.
from the strips hanging on the zipper pull, not sure here but seems like the suede is black but the surface is brown, was is a black chrome tanned, and they rub dye remover on it ( in between I see faded grey under the surface) and then use brown over paint? somewhere in the translation perhaps the webmaster got confused between tanning and dyeing and just trying to type something that sounds spectacular(wild speculation here sorry)

I'm not a lover of this style but the belt looks wrong and the YKK zippers make it look cheap. They may be good zippers but!

I agree the belt looks a little odd, but apparently that is the best way to make it actually work, functionally, and is more period authentic than having a belt made from the same material as the jacket.

As to

I have no idea. I think sometimes the descriptions on the Iron Heart site do get somewhat carried away or else a little lost in translation, I remember when they had some 'Ventile' jackets a while back and when people started complaining as they were not waterproof it was found they were not actually Ventile at all, but something similar and so they renamed it as 'Japanese Ventile'

Speaking of mismatching, here is how I wear my Langlitz. Army belt and I've just recently finished making this DIY collar for the jacket (real sheepskin with leather facing I cut out from an old ruined leather jacket). I love the whole thing to death.
