I wonder, do the ladies find the responses tend to be more appreciative whilst the gents tend to find it attracts sniggers (except from the older generation who appear to value any effort on our part)?

William my Dad (in his 80's) will pass comment and noticve how smarty some one is dressed a man or women , and how standards are dropping these days etc, he would have to know them very well to say it to there face, a stranger he not say any thing either way , becuse he a gentleman.

After singing at the independence day concert. A lady saw me came over and told me you look like you belong on the cover of a 1940's WWII Look magazine. It made my day extra special.

At the weekend a lady asked me what relation I was to my mother and then went on to say that she thought we were sisters. :eeek:I bet my face was a picture- I was totally aghast to say the least!!!
Only a couple of years ago a man thought I was 15- blimey I’ve aged badly, eh;)

Strangers tell me that they think my mother and I are sisters all the time. I think part of it is how we interact with each other more than anything else. Or so I hope. ;)

I think it's because people genuinely find it hard to put an age on a woman who isn't either dressed like something from Jersey Shore or Mrs Thatcher. They probably just don't know how to take you. There's a wonderful history teacher in my school who's very into the 50's, with a beehive and cat's eye glasses. She looks brilliant but there's no way I could judge her age and I wouldn't dare try!

By the way Tuppence, that wasn't you doing the voice over for the female spy on BBC2 the other night was it? It was a fabulous programme about double and triple agents during WW2, I can't remember what it was called, but it was on Monday or Tuesday.

I guess that's it- people have always said I look older than my sister who is (nearly three years my senior) but I don't mind that too much!
And no it wasn't me- I haven't made my way in TV yet and nor would I want to! I remember being interviewed for TV once and I looked quite green after the ordeal!
I’ll have to find the programme on iplayer, sounds good :)

Well we do enjoy each others company (well, most of the time!) and are more like friends when we are out and about, so again, that could be the reason. My dad just said the lady was short of sight!!!;)

Today a very sweet lady who came to our office told me I remind her of "olden times - like the lady from Peyton Place". I asked her if she meant Lana Turner and she said yes - I could have hugged her!

Just recently I got, yet again, "I thought you were Honeysuckle Weeks!"

She is the actress who plays the character Samantha Stewart in Foyle's War here on UK television. This programme is quite old now, and I used to get it all the time when it first came out. I find it a little odd, as she is a redhead (I'm not) and she is almost always wearing a uniform. I get it more when I am wearing civilian clothes, although I do portray WAAF sometimes. This time I was wearing a navy 40s suit with a 30s embroidered peasant blouse and a navy picture hat. [huh]

Here she is:

It’s a bit hard to tell from your avatar, but I can see why people might say that ;)
I remember seeing a girl at Pickering once dressed in ATS and she was a dead ringer for Honeysuckle!
(your outfit sound amazing btw!)

I get people saying “oh it’s Vera Lynn” or "you look a bit like..." quite a lot , and its always followed by “can you sing?”. Poor Vera is all I say.:p

I can see the Vera Lynn resemblance. I have an albumn of her early recordings and you do look like her when she was young, that is a complement by the way!

Miss Sis... I kid you not... I once had a guy come up to me in the store (I was in dirty sweats, a baggy t-shirt, no makeup, and I don't even think I brushed my hair that day - for shame! Hey, I was sick!) and said, "Oh! I thought you were Kate Beckinsale for a second." I was a brunette at the time and Pearl Harbor and and Aviator were still fresh in the eyes of the public -- but still! Hahahaha That made this sick gal laugh! My point being, if I got that horrendous mistake I can completely see why you are mistaken for Honeysuckle! Even without the uniform and without the red hair! :-D

The Boy claims it is because I am quite like the character of Sam, rather boisterous! However, people usually say it when they have just seen me, so that can't be the case, I feel!

Sorry, I should have put a pic that you could see to compare. Here's a larger one of my avatar where I am on the same angle as Ms Weeks as Sam and the Foyle's War shot.

As a great fan of Foyle's War, I agree. You are very alike!

I've never been mistaken for anyone, but in the mid-90s my then bf would occasionally be asked if he really was James Spader. I always told him he should say yes! :)
