Are dark hats hotter than light coloured hats?

It's painted of course, but it always seemed odd to me that the whole idea of a light woven hat was to keep your had cool, and

There isn’t a consensus that darker hats are actually warmer wearing. It sounds counterintuitive, and I personally believe they are slightly warmer, but the numbers suggest there is little if any difference.

A black object absorbs more incident radiation than a white object.

Whether this translates to an open weave hat being warmer, I’m not sure.

I'm not following why this is “counterintuitive”.

I have a farm, i do physical work out in the sun, and in summer I WEAR A WHITE HAT! :)
