As another newbie - this has been a question I've had as well: I'm not really sure what is acceptable with what, color-wise.
My clothing lineup is all contemporary stuff. I've not (yet) caught a bug for any vintage suits, shoes, etc.
I wear mostly (white) shirt & tie with black slacks or dark suits. However, I am looking for a color of hat (or three) that will work with most anything. I also have an olive colored overcoat that I wear during winter/rainy fall.
I have a "Natural" colored Sportaire on the way from Art (I know - not bad for a first hat
). Art advised me that this color will work very well with casual wear (khakis, jeans, etc.) If I can grab a dark grey or black hat and a brown, methinks I'll be covered.(?)
For the brown - I'm thinking Adventurebilt.... I just don't want to go too fast into this addiction!
