Classic casual wear

I know this site is devoted largely to the more formal aspect of classic menswear, but we all need to dress down from time to time, no?

Almost all my casual clothing is vintage, and I favor sport shirts from the 1950s and early '60s.

Here are my most recent acquisitions -- I'm quite pleased with all three:

EDIT: Removed old, broken links.

Nice shirts!

AFAIK, there's no Dress bias here. [huh] And, welcome to the lounge.:)

True, but it all depends on one's job here in NYC. I've never had a position that required anything more than jeans and a clean shirt.

I do have some vintage suits and dozens of vintage ties. I just don't have as many opportunities to wear them as I'd like.

And with the humidity here in the summer, the fewer layers the better.

But hey, even those shirts are a step up from T-shirts, no? Those, I almost never wear.

Hi skyvue, welcome to the lounge! I bought these for my husband several years ago at a yard sale. He just can't bring himself to open the packages & actually wear these shirts- he's afraid he'll ruin them, I guess.lol

This one is so cool: *As seen on the Perry Como Show*- that one I can't blame him for wanting to leave the tags on!

That show ran from '55 to '63, so that would be the date of these shirts.

Sweet Leilani, What kind of material is Acrilan? Is it comparable to the Polyester fabric of the 70’s or is it a softer cotton blend? I don’t blame your husband for not wanting to remove that priceless Perry Como label.

Skyvue, Those are very nice acquisitions. I bet those vintage sport shirts are 100% cotton and will be very comfortable to wear during the humid summer months.

Sweet Leilani, I can understand hubby's reluctance to wear those in case they get damaged - I'd be the same myself. I'd love to see a sensibly priced repro of that Perry Como shirt, though - looks fab!

The Acrilan is some sort of soft cottony fabric- I guess it's a version of acrylic (the soft yarn used in place of cashmere). It's not fuzzy though; more like mercerized cotton. But it's definitely not smooth like polyester.
