I think there is an outside chance that it might end pretty well even on the first attempt. I have not used 5*, but a repeating refrain is that you have to be REALLY detailed with them (pictures, drawings, measurements, following up) to get a good result. How about sending them a jacket that is oversized exactly like the one you want (in different style, of course), and asking them to use these measurements to make the exact jacket from the X-files pics? Given your relative inexperience in jackets measurements it might be the best chance to get it close-to-right the first time. I will let those who used 5* opine on whether that is a good strategy. Of course assuming that the OP did not leave the thread in a huff, clearly misunderstanding @Peacoat comment.

I cannot access this website through my regular IP address anymore. Has my IP address been banned? I need to know this. I am only able to post now because I'm using my phone's other internet connection instead of my regular WiFi. I have no idea what's going on.

They would ban your account if they were going to ban you. This site doesn't always have the best uptime, there are sometimes outages. It doesn't seem that there's an outage now. But your behavior has been fine, there's no reason they'd take any action against you, at least from what I have seen. (It would be a different matter if you had posted something genuinely offensive that had already been taken down, but I doubt that's the case.)

No, I didn't intend for it to be snarky. It's just that with your lack of experience in developing measurements, and Five Star's lack of experience in building an over sized jacket such as this, there are bound to be disconnects along the way.

I wish you nothing but the best. PC
Thanks, I appreciate this post. Sorry if I overreacted.

Also, the site is working again under my normal internet connection.

Lol, don't worry, you're not banned. The site was down for an hour or so. Why would anyone ban you? :D

If someone is able to address what I posted on page 6, post #111 (https://www.thefedoralounge.com/thr...-of-leather-jacket.106274/page-6#post-2878568) I would appreciate it, regarding the terminology. I also posted a photo of the sleeve of a jacket I own.

You can always ask them to create a pattern test jacket in a cheap fabric first, or even paper, then tweak anything that you want adjusted, before having it done for real. That's probably the better way to go about it.
This seems like a fantastic idea actually.

I thought maybe I was too annoying with too many questions or being a nuisance overall.

OK, so... in terms of the very first measurement, the length from top to bottom, I am pretty sure I can use the length of one or two of the jackets I already own, which would be these two:

I think the length is pretty much like in the original. The actor is 183 cm tall. I am 184 cm... same height basically. He appears "wider" than me, so I'm not sure if this would impact the length measurement from top to bottom.

Is "decorative cuff" a correct way to describe it though? Because to me it just looks like an added layer onto the jacket, with no function, no button, nothing to "tighten", hence decorative. Or should I use a different term to describe it? Is it just an additional piece of leather added/glued/attached onto the sleeve, or is it sort of the part where the sleeve "connects" with the remaining part of the sleeve?

This kind of cuff is usually referred to as false cuff or American style cuff, though I'm sure decorative cuff ought to work just fine and you are mostly correct on the technical aspects of it, except the glued part. It is just an additional strip of leather stitched onto the sleeve panels, usually angled for a decorative effect.

The cuff on the photo would be called a button cuff of course, though technically this name is reserved for an actual 1930's onward button & button hole setup and not the snap-on cuff closure.

Awesomely explained.

Two more pictures of the original sleeve, although it's dark...

And this is that sleeve from my own jacket posted on page 6:

So basically in my jacket the button cuff (which I'm perfectly fine with) has "two options" in terms of tightness. I know it's a stupid question but what is the term for these two "things" where the button comes in. (facepalm)

The jacket from the episode is a little bit shorter and the pattern is different. First, none of your jackets has shoulder seams set deliberately low as a design feature since these are more modern jackets you're wearing, which are a bit too large for you.

The trick with the 90's cut is that the shoulder seams are set extremely low which in turn results with gigantic armholes (also not present on your jackets) and a very wide and short sleeves, so to compensate for the overhanging sleeve opening & still achieve a somewhat correct sleeve length. You can plainly see this on the screen grab with the dude pointing a Glock at whoever. The sleeves, measured from the seam, would come out at 22" at best.

Although, I'm noticing now that there's some overlap/bunching happening at the cuffs, plainly visible in the same pic.

Understood. It would appear that if the guy were to wear a size that "fits", the shoulder seams might still be a bit "off" cause it's an older jacket style, but nowhere that low / extreme as they are in the photos. It appears he is wearing three times what he should be wearing. But in terms of the length, I'd say it's "around" the same length as the two jackets I posted? There's no way I can get it 100% accurate.

This makes sense. But also, the impression I get, is that the "normal size" version of his jacket would not have long sleeves at all. To be more specific: several of today's jackets like biker jackets, have a relatively short length from top to bottom, but have significantly longer sleeves. In this jacket however, it appears that, if his arms are relaxed, they are the same level as the bottom end of his jacket. So the only reason his sleeves are long are due to the massive oversize. Am I correct with this?

I will request, along with what appears to be a simple decorative cuff, that the other real cuff resembles the one I already own, with the two studs. The whole overlapping thing I don't understand, but since I am aiming for around 90% resemblance it does not really matter at this point. Focusing on absolutely every single detail would be extreme, even for myself. :)

From what I can tell from the pics; Yes, you are. The sleeves of this jacket would fall at around the hem, regardless of the size, but the shoulder seams would always hang very low on the arm.

I re-watched the show in crystal clear 1080p so why don't you download the episode in question in this resolution, before starting off the project? I'm sure every aspect of the jacket will be clearly visible in this resolution.

The pictures are from 1080p, the best I could come up with, because when you hit "pause" it's hard for it not to be a bit blurry. I have it both on Bluray, iTunes, and Disney+.

Here in Europe it's available on Disney+, but in the US it's on Hulu.
