That one is close enough that if the size works for the OP, it'd be the best way to go, in my opinion. It'd save you a lot of time and money.

I also think Monitor's initial advice was misplaced, and I am glad that he softened his stance and apologized and has tried to be helpful in guiding you to what you want, not what you "should" want. While I also don't personally find this style of jacket is compelling it's not for me to convince Zagy of what they should want to wear. The heart wants what it wants. We can understand that. And we can offer our expertise on how to find that, whether or not we would also wear the same thing.

That said, these forums are kind of dedicated to vintage style from a certain era, mostly pre-70s, so it is understandable why this sort of advice is so forthcoming here. But not everyone needs to be "retro" or period correct or for historical reenactment. There's nothing inherently wrong with wanting to emulate the look of the 1990s, or any other period you happen to like for whatever reason. So it's up to you to decide what you want to wear and how you want to look, and if one of us doesn't happen to like it, it's not relevant. It's our problem, not yours, and if you like what you're doing, feel free to ignore the naysayers. It's maybe slightly off topic for the purpose of the forum and community, but I don't have a problem with that personally. The 90s were long enough ago by now that we can call 90s style a vintage period, strange as it might sound to some of us who remember it vividly. It ain't the 40s, that's for sure, but it's the past. It's its own period.

Of course, you did come here asking for advice, and so you're going to get an earful of it, as well as a range of opinions and options, so just take what you want to listen to and run with it. It's your life and your money. We all should get to express ourselves and live as we please. Viva la difference.

Actually, it is me who should be apologizing...
No, no, no, please. Now I feel bad, seriously. I did not take any offense, it was just a misunderstanding in terms of what one's priorities might be, whether it's purely fashion, or purely replicating something, or a combination of both. There is absolutely no reason for you to apologize, so let's not bring this up again. It's all good! :)

I wanna find it as well now. Can't be only one was made, right?
The original series has nine seasons with 200+ episodes and two movies (since I don't accept the two revival seasons as part of the show), and this jacket appears in only one single episode, for maybe 1 minute total on screen, if not less than a minute, in three separate, short scenes. That's why I find it extremely hard to believe that this was custom made for the actor/character to wear. It would make no sense whatsoever, hence why I believe the same thing you do, that there's can't be only one of these. The episode in question was filmed in 1994, but it could be an older jacket from the 80s.

What I personally find very interesting is that the jacket contains certain characteristics that similar types of jackets don't have. Here are the images with me pointing out certain things. Sorry if my terminology is off when it comes to stuff like "button cuffs" or whatever, lol. Take a look, especially at the "zig zag" pattern between the buttons...

Please take a look at picture #5 with the sleeve closely visible. That for example, is a must-have for me. Those... "button cuffs" (?), no clue if I got the term right, as well as the decorative detail (attachment?) a few inches above it.

It almost looks to me like the jacket is padded, perhaps with a quilted lining, or that the actor is wearing something bulky under it (perhaps to offset how over-sized it is? Or perhaps just to make the actor look bigger and more menacing?)

It's all but certainly an off the rack item from Wardrobe. Shows don't usually produce custom designed jackets unless for a major character. Even TV productions have to be budget conscious. Sometimes costumers will modify something to give it a certain look, but I don't think it looks modified. To me it looks like a typical 90s "Frankenstein" style mash-up, and at least two sizes too large. The jacket has no reason to have shoulder gussets if it's really intended to be worn that size. Even though 90s style was often baggy, relaxed-fit and oversized, this still looks bigger than it should be.

I don't know the episode, but for all I know there's a legit explanation for the sizing - - maybe the character escaped prison and stole the first thing they could find that wasn't an orange jumpsuit. Who knows. But there could be a legitimate design choice on the part of the costuming department.

You can spend months or even years looking through jackets made in the 90s and find stuff that's similar but not the same, and everything you find has one thing that's off and makes it not what you want. I've definitely been there, myself, although I've also had a few successful multi year hunts. If you know exactly what you want, it can only help to be very patient and keep your eyes peeled. You never know where you might find it.

The zig zag is a standard feature of the Lee Storm Rider.
The "decorative cuff" is a take on a traditional cuff, i have seen it described as "an American cuff", Aero uses it a lot, their 50s Half belt for example.
Yes, you beat me to the punch Carlos on both points. The interesting thing about the cuff on this jacket is that it appears to be quite a bit longer than those used by Aero and other makers, almost like a gauntlet.

Major Update: Five Star Leathers has replied to me this morning via E-Mail. They are interested and say it is not a big problem getting this made. :) They need specific measurements and more details as to what is very important to me. Additional photos would help, which in that case I can only provide photos of similar jackets that have characteristics I would be satisfied with. They say that this is distressed leather and they can artificially distress the leather for me to look the same as the original, but they also provided several images in the e-mail of already available steer hide and goatskin leathers, asking if I would prefer any of those.

And as far as thickness goes, they say that they would work with 1,3 mm. Unless you guys tell me that the original looks thicker? I believe some people said so. Another thing they need to know is how I want it to be inside, especially the lining, but inside pockets perhaps as well. It would require 10 days to develop a pattern after I submit all necessary information, and another 3 to 5 days to complete the project. Then they would ship via DHL or FedEx Tracked Services. But before I start gathering specific measurements etc., I need to find out approximately how much it could cost, just so that I know an approximate "range", if possible. I've sent them another message regarding that.

I also took a look at their Facebook page and they've done some great if not extraordinary work IMO, including this jacket right here: https://www.facebook.com/fivestarleathershop/photos/pcb.837007897174798/837007857174802

Now this "justification" part of the whole thing is very unnecessary, but I will do it one more time and prefer not to discuss it further...

Because I like it a lot, 50% because I'm a big fan of the series, and 50% because the jacket does not look like a "plain" similar jacket but is more complex, even perhaps even odd, but odd in a good way as I'm concerned, personally. As much as I appreciate you trying to point me in a different direction, I do feel weird needing to justify myself to people as to "why?". I have said thank you tons of times to everyone who helped me out, but the whole "why?"-thing I feel is unnecessary, because I know it will not change my mind nor the mind of the person(s) who are asking. No offense whatsoever. :)

I really appreciate your advice and know what you are trying to tell me, but this has not *entirely* to do with fashion but more with owning something that caught my attention and made me really interested and intrigued into getting something similar. I have tons of leather jackets which would not be considered "trash" by most people. I only posted a small portion of them earlier in the thread, and I don't think anyone called a single one of them trash. In fact one member specifically mentioned that he liked them. Now as far as this custom made jacket is concerned, while I do take (slight) offense at the word trash, I also do not really get angry about it, because tastes are different. At the same time however, I do not see how - assuming you were to take that same jacket and make it normal size / shoulder seems where they should be - it can be automatically labeled as "trash". Perhaps we shouldn't go into this discussion, because no one's mind will be changed, and because it might lead into an entirely different and unnecessary direction/discussion... but honestly, if the same jacket were a normal fit, I don't see one reason whatsoever why it is trash. There are so many similar looking ones out there that look extremely plain and less appealing. It is a matter of taste as far as I'm concerned. A matter of taste *not* regarding the "oversized / shoulder seems out of place thing", but in terms of look/design.

That's a fashion thing though. And it's only 50% of what my project is about. It's like I explained earlier. No need to write again about the shoulder seems and oversized look thing. I came here specifically for help finding something very similar or getting it custom made. I didn't come for fashion advice. I have plenty of clothes that are fashionable. And if I didn't trust you guys, I wouldn't stay five pages into this thread reading every post and updating the thread regularly. It's just that the "why" thing should really not be part of this discussion. Please don't take this the wrong way. I think I've been respectful in the way I've expressed myself so far, and I believe, and really kindly ask, that the whole "why" discussion does not continue further. Again, no offense whatsoever.

Good luck with your 5* project. I can only suggest here even if you spec the shoulder to drop and the sleeve to be long, reduce the neck circumference to match yours better, and reduce the chest measurement just a bit, you still get the same look you aim for, but it would wear much better especially if you go with thicker leather like you want. Because when the neck hole is too big the jacket will shift position left to right all the time and then you will need to reposition it to center again and again, the guy in the movie only wear it for a scene but you are going to wear it all day.

What's wrong with the latest two seasons? I never watched these, even though I intended to because Anderson just keeps on getting more and more stunning and having re-watched the entire original series, I realized she's the only reason why I loved the show in the first place.

Plus there are some brilliant episodes, like the one with the genie carpet girl.

Nice job. I just looked it up, yeah that's the zig-zag thing. Totally uncommon if not unheard of for these types of jackets though (the one I'm looking for), which is odd.

The "decorative cuff" is a take on a traditional cuff, i have seen it described as "an American cuff", Aero uses it a lot, their 50s Half belt for example.
Thank you. English is my third language which is why I need to learn the right terminology regarding these details when talking to a potential maker.

Is "decorative cuff" a correct way to describe it though? Because to me it just looks like an added layer onto the jacket, with no function, no button, nothing to "tighten", hence decorative. Or should I use a different term to describe it? Is it just an additional piece of leather added/glued/attached onto the sleeve, or is it sort of the part where the sleeve "connects" with the remaining part of the sleeve?

And in regards to the "real" cuff he has on his sleeves. What is the correct term for that? I have a leather jacket which has a "cuff" I really like, and although I'm not certain if it's similar as in the original jacket, I would be 100% fine with it on a replica.

Here is a picture of it I just took a few minutes ago...

What is the correct name for that, and does it appear similar to the original one?

The episode you're referring to - one of my favorite "comedy" episodes of the show - is in season seven, titled "Je Souhaite". It was written by Vince Gilligan, creator of "Breaking Bad", who worked on The X-Files and wrote some amazing episodes. The X-Files in and of itself is a combination of standalone and "mythology" episodes... meaning episodes that have nothing to do with one another, and episodes that follow the main story line, the so-called mythology. It is a very complex show with tons of different genres and layers. Fans are very divided (and it even turned into downright hatred toward one another) when it comes to the revival seasons, meaning 10th and 11th season. From my experience and research, at least 60% of fans extremely dislike the revival and do not consider it part of the original. But I really really do not wish to turn this thread into a discussion about the show itself, for more reasons than one. :) You can always private message me if something specific interests you though.

Thanks for the tips. I really think they did a tremendous job here: https://www.facebook.com/fivestarleathershop/photos/pcb.837007897174798/837007857174802

Even though that's an Indy replica, it shares plenty of similarities, hence it could be used as a starting point and then expanding on it. Maybe.

Je Souhiate, that's the one! Genie girl was fantastic and I found the episode to actually be a lot more philosophical and thought provoking than many that were intended that way.
That one and the episode that I found genuinely scary is named, coincidentally also in French, Folie a Deux. I think Gilligan also either directed or wrote that one but it's a great episode! That zombie-looking woman staring at the TV... Good stuff.
I stopped watching the show once Mulder left because I knew that the random 4th wall breaking conversations that Mulder and Scully occasionally had, which is some of the best written TV dialogue ever IMO, would not happen ever again.

Anyway, I went through entire Etsy and Vinted, couldn't find the jacket. Honestly, that Timberland one is the closest match I found.

OK so I've received confirmation that Five Star Leathers is going to do it. The price is more than reasonable as well. Now the biggest challenge for me personally is getting the measurements and all important details together, and finding the best way to present them. This will take lots of work on my side, and might take a few weeks... cause I'm totally clueless when it comes to that.

Thank you for your concern. However, with due respect, that would be my problem, no? :)

If it doesn't "end well", it will be solely my personal issue to deal with. I won't come on here to whine about it either. And I don't mind spending money on several replicas, if needed. I wanted to take this as a challenge, like many things in my life previous to this (not clothing related). No, I am not embarrassed to admit that I've never come up with measurements / drawings relating to clothes. So yeah... there's a first time for everything.

I had actually intended to post the measurements I come up with etc. in the coming days/weeks, in order to see whether I'm on the right track... but when I see remarks such as this one, I honestly ask myself whether to continue posting at all. Maybe I'm overreacting and your comment wasn't intended to be "snarky", but I'm honestly not sure. It came across that way.

The vast majority of replies have been in a totally normal manner and tremendously helpful. The way I personally function on a forum is that if I'm unable to help someone, I don't try to ridicule them either. But everyone's different, I guess.

If you feel I am being a nuisance, or acting stupid/foolish, or breaking forum rules, or that this thread is somehow ruining the "seriousness" of this forum, please feel free to close or delete it. Depending on the upcoming replies to this post, there's a chance that I might not participate further in the thread anyway. And that's unfortunate (for me) because I would have preferred some additional assistance regarding measurements I come up with in the coming days, but there are also other sources elsewhere.

Either way, I thank everyone who was able to help me with this.

Best wishes, and sorry if I was too annoying and/or have offended anyone.

If this really is my last post, I wish everyone on the forum Happy Holidays, and a great start in the year 2022.

No, I didn't intend for it to be snarky. It's just that with your lack of experience in developing measurements, and Five Star's lack of experience in building an over sized jacket such as this, there are bound to be disconnects along the way.

I wish you nothing but the best. PC

It sounds like you have the right perspective going into this. Building an ill fitting jacket (no I am not being snarky, just accurate) is not something most makers set out to do so it is very likely you will have to evolve this design over the course of two or three jackets to get exactly what you want. The fact that you know that going in is great.
And I hope you do keep posting here, this project is different than most of the jackets and jacket ideas we see here and therefore it is interesting. Because it is so unusual that inspires us to make jokes here and there from time to time, please don’t take that too seriously.

5* has indeed made a number of full custom jackets which turned out great. But there's at least as many failures. Even leather jacket veterans who know exactly what they want and need in terms of sizing and measurements struggled to get a good fitting jacket from 5*. But if they nail it, they absolutely nail it and you'll get an awesome jacket for a very competitive price. But going for a full custom pattern without knowing your measurements and how they all work together, It will be challenging.
