If you don't have this album, get it fast, be it from there or from your local store. Hm? No, as far as I know, it's not getting out of print. Just get it fast.

It was recorded just after the period you mention, but it's much more traditional than the date would suggest.

that sounds great! I've been burned before by later releases of the Mighty Sparrow & Lord Kitchener so I've been wary ever since....

What Mighty Sparrow purchase have you been disappointed with?

Mighty Sparrow - Hot + Sweet was the album I bought that I thought would feature original recordings but to me didn't capture the brilliance of his earlier era.

Personally, I am not into Soca which is what most of these artists gravitated to later in life I've noticed. I much prefer the more laid back, cool, sound of early Calypsos. I've felt, and this could be somewhat inaccurate, the mid-60's was the beginning of the style change. I've bought some of the best of collections which mix and match various time frames together. I love the first 2 actual Mighty Sparrow albums from the late 50's.

I am a big fan of Duke of Iron, Wilmouth Houdini, Calypso Mama, Lord Invader, Lord Beginner, the Lion, Lord Kitchener, Mighty Sparrow, Blind Blake (both his calypso & blues), and plenty more. But more so minus the influence of Soca in their music. Even Sir Lancelot (as featured in various 40's films) has a very nice voice. Although the biting humor and razor sharp wit of the Trinidad carnival/road march contestants is something very special!
I just realized this collection is released. That's the very next thing I purchase for sure!
